    The economy is now on "sound footing" and £1 in every 34 is now borrowed, as opposed to one in four when the Conservatives came to power in 2010, says former Conservative party chair Sir Patrick McLoughlin.

    The SNP's Westminster leader Ian Blackford says he wishes Theresa May and her husband Philip all the best for the future.

    But he says that Boris Johnson has no mandate from the people, and says Scotland "deserves better" - when 60% of those in Scotland are "dismayed" by Boris Johnson becoming a prime minister. He asks her to join SNP efforts to prevent the suspension of Parliament to force through a no-deal Brexit.

    Mrs May says the government "does have a mandate from the people" and that is how Parliamentary democracy works in the UK. She says the government also has a mandate to deliver Brexit.
