    Bob Blackman

Conservative MP Bob Blackman rises to introduce his bill at second reading to a busy House of Commons chamber.

He says that the reality is that in this day and age, homelessness comes from many causes, and he says that the result of homelessness is often that people who reach that "terrible crisis point in their life" will go for help to their local authority.

Mr Blackman says that "too often" people are told to wait until the bailiffs arrive and are "literally thrown out on the street".

Green MP Caroline Lucas intervenes to say that increased funding for local authorities is needed for this bill to be successful.

Bob Blackman agrees that his bill is "part of a strategy".

  2. Friday in the Commonspublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 28 October 2016

Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the House of Commons.

It's a sitting Friday and that can mean only one thing - private members' bills!

First up on the list is Conservative MP Bob Blackman's Homelessness Reduction Bill which seeks to amend the Housing Act 1996 to make provision for measures to be put in place to reduce homelessness.

If Mr Blackman's bill survives the sometimes tortuous path of Friday procedure and makes it past second reading - then the Protection of Family Homes (Enforcement and Permitted Development) Bill will be up for debate.

    All of that from 9.30am.
