  3. Rees-Mogg: I'm not trying to remove PMpublished at 09:59 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Jacob Rees-Mogg

Prominent Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg has criticised the latest delay to Brexit but says he will not be involved in trying to force the prime minister to step down.

The Conservative MP says: "I thought the prime minister said a few weeks ago that she wouldn't agree to any extension and now we are getting quite a long one.

"I don't think it's a good idea and it is not delivering on the referendum result."

Asked about Theresa May's future as leader, he adds: "I was involved in the vote of no confidence last year and I lost that, so I accept she is the leader of the Conservative party and the prime minister.

"I am not involved in any leadership efforts to remove her."

The big Brexit moment in the Commons today will come at around lunchtime, when Theresa May is due to update MPs on the results of last night’s summit.

That’s slightly later than had been expected, because two debates – on the East Midlands train franchise and racism in football – have been added to today's agenda.

At around 11.15 BST, Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom will announce parliamentary business for after the Easter recess.

Brexit could also come up when Attorney General Geoffrey Cox takes part in a scheduled scrutiny session at 10.00 BST.

  12. Another referendum may be necessary - Labourpublished at 09:29 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

Shadow justice secretary Richard Burgon says another referendum may become necessary if Theresa May remains "inflexible".

He says Brexit talks between Labour and the Conservatives are "ongoing" but concerns remain.

Labour wants reassurances that any agreement reached "can't just be ripped up and thrown in the bin" by Theresa May's successor, he adds.

"Our priority is seeing if we can break this impasse through these negotiations.

"But if Theresa May remains inflexible, if she doesn’t move her red lines… it may be that a public vote of some description whether it be a general election or some sort of referendum actually becomes necessary as a way out of this crisis.”

  16. Pressure increasing on PM to go - Davispublished at 09:12 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

Former Brexit secretary David Davis says pressure will increase on Theresa May to quit as prime minister following the extension to Brexit.

He tells the BBC: "The pressure on her to go will increase dramatically, I suspect, now.

"Whether it will come to anything - who knows?"

Asked if Mrs May would still be Tory leader in the autumn, Mr Davis says: "I think it is going to be difficult because by that time we will have had a European election which will become a plebiscite, really, on Brexit.

"And I suspect you will see a very successful rise of a, sort of, Brexit movement, the Nigel Farage thing, and so on."

  17. We must use extension to deliver Brexit - Leadsompublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Andrea Leadsom

Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom has played down concerns that the extension could mean Brexit does not happen at all.

Speaking outside her flat in Westminster, she says: "We have to use this time to make sure that we deliver the Brexit we are all looking for, that we work closely with the EU and that they are genuinely helping to make sure we do deliver on the referendum - there won't be any changing our minds about that.

"We are absolutely determined to deliver on that referendum."
