Welcome to the BBC’s politics live page for Thursday 26 September.

The Commons kicks off at 09:30 BST for its second day back after it was unlawfully prorogued earlier this month.

Business includes a motion from the government seeking a short recess for the Tory Party conference next week, and a general debate on “the principles of democracy and the rights of the electorate”.

But the morning is being dominated by the fallout from day one, and controversial remarks by the prime minister during his statement to the House last night.

We will be bringing you all the news from Westminster, both inside and outside of the chamber.
