He claims the "constructive tone" of Mr Johnson "stands in stark contrast to the opposition parties [who] continue to set their face against their own voters".

Mr Johnson says he "thoroughly agrees" with his colleague.

He appeals for MPs on all sides of the House to "think very carefully on the terms we are setting out".

The PM adds: "It is incumbent on all of us to get this thing done [and] get it over the line."

    Parliament

    Philip Davies

Tory backbencher and Leave supporter Philip Davies pokes fun at Jeremy Corbyn's history of Euroscepticism.

He says: "When I launched the Better Off Out group back in 2006, I could always rely on the now leader of the Labour party in the voting lobbies.

"I am sorry he has now ditched the only popular policy he believed in."

Mr Davies then asks asks Boris Johnson: "If what he has proposed - a final offer - if [the EU] rejects this out of hand, will it be the possibility of the government to leave without a deal?"

Mr Johnson joins with his Tory colleague in mocking Mr Corbyn, saying the Labour leader "seems to have been captured by some of his colleagues".

The PM then "certainly confirms" that the UK will be leaving the EU on 31 October "deal or no deal".

She says: "If the prime minister had bothered to go to the Northern Ireland border, he would know the genuine fear that people feel that [the proposals] will result in physical infrastructure on the border."

Ms Swinson says his plan "has been denounced as the worst of both worlds", asking: "Will the prime minister now go to the Northern Ireland border and listen to the people and communities there or does he not care?"

Mr Johnson says he understands the concerns of people on both sides of the border, and across the UK.

He claims they are "all about blaming someone else - in this case the EU - when his plan is rejected".

Mr Blackford says it is a "plan that is designed to fail", and that "this take it or leave it threat is yet another push between a take it or leave it no-deal Brexit".

  19. Ball not in our court, says EUpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 3 October 2019

    EU flagsImage source, Reuters

A European Commission spokeswoman has rejected Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay's suggestion that the ball is in their court.

“We would disagree. There are, as we have said, problematic points in the UK’s proposal and further work is needed, but that work needs to be done by the UK and not the other way around.

"We would remind you that it’s the UK leaving the EU and not the EU leaving the UK. And we are doing everything in our power to ensure that that exit is on an orderly basis and we are willing to engage constructively with our counter-parts but we are not going to be the ones left holding the bag, the ball or any other kind of object.”

"These plans are simply unworkable," says the Labour leader.

"What we have before us is not a serious proposal to break the deadlock... it is nothing more than a cynical attempt by the prime minister to shift the blame for his failure to deliver."
