    First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says 499 people have now tested positive for the virus in Scotland, an increase of 83 from yesterday.

    She confirms four more patients who tested positively for coronavirus have died, bringing the total to 14.

    An NHS Western Isles emergency vehicle was vandalised

    An NHS Western Isles emergency vehicle has been vandalised.

    The vehicle is one of only two the islands health board has available.

    A bottle was thrown at the windscreen at the weekend, putting the vehicle out of action.

    The health board said: "NHS Western Isles has two emergency vehicles for a range of emergency responses, not least coronavirus.

    "They are very much needed at this time.

    "This beggars belief."

    Arrangements have been made to have the windscreen replaced.

  8. Falkirk key worker childcare hubs set to open tomorrowpublished at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2020

    Childcare hubs for key workers in the Falkirk Council area are expected to open on Tuesday.

    A spokesman for the authority said all eight high schools in the region would act as hubs.

    About 2,000 local pupils are expected to attend.

    The Mountain Bothies Asociation (MBA) says it is closing all the bothies in Scotland that the organisation maintains.

    The simple shelters in remote areas are free to use and found across many parts of Scotland.

    The MBA said: "In line with government and medical advice about social distancing, all MBA maintained bothies are CLOSED to visitors until further notice. The Association has also cancelled all meetings and work parties."

    Katie and Owen Campbell, from Stenhousemuir in Falkirk, "loved their morning workout" with Joe Wicks on their first day of "home learning".

    Their mum Megan shared a video of them on Twitter, enthusiastically following along.

    She said that as a NHS staff nurse herself, she felt it was important that everyone - adults and children - kept busy to "get through this tough time".

    She added that she thought the daily workouts were a "great way".

    Scottish curler Vicky Wright has returned to her role as a general surgical ward nurse to aid the fight against coronavirus.

    The 26-year-old was on a break from her nursing career to pursue her Olympic ambitions and was due to be competing in the World Championships this month.

    Highland Council says work is ongoing to make arrangements to provide childcare to key workers, such as health service employees.

    Like the rest of Scotland, all schools in the Highland area are closed.

    Schools have been in touch with parents about arrangements to provide lessons via online "classrooms" and school blogs.

    The council said it was preparing for the need to teach and care for key workers.

    A spokesman said: "We have been seeking key workers to register over the weekend and details will be publicised shortly.”

    A Scottish mountain rescue team says it is only responding immediately to incidents involving serious injury.

    Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team said "difficult choices" were having to be made amid efforts to prevent the spread coronavirus.

    In a post on Facebook, the team said people who were uninjured, lost or stuck will be asked to consider waiting until the following morning, or for better weather to be rescued.

    It said the "walking wounded" should try to get themselves off the hills and to safety.

    Glencoe said it would respond to serious incidents, but with the "bare minimum" of team members.

    It said the measures were being taken to protect the team members, their older relatives and young children, as well as the wider public.

    Dundee FC's future stars have turned the current advice on keeping their distance from team-mates into a novel way of honing their skills.

    The club's U12s have made an online video of their "social distancing challenge."

    The players have also been set a homework challenge of 100 "keepy ups", left and right feet consecutively, in the quickest time, currently 44 seconds.

    Joe Wicks, the Body Coach and an ambassador for the BBC's Children in Need, has started daily PE classes for kids (big and small!) to stay active while the schools are off.

    This morning's class proved popular, with many families sharing videos on social media of children joining in in front of the TV at home.

    He has promised to stream live workouts every weekday at 09:00.
