New hand sanitising measures brought in at Glasgow hospitalpublished at 06:55 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2020
New hand sanitising measures have been brought in at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after a consultant doctor raised concerns in the media about infection control.
Dr Fiona Henderson, a consultant anaesthetist at the hospital, raised concerns about people entering the hospital not being compelled to use hand sanitisers and said they were poorly signposted. She also said supermarkets were doing a better job of cleaning than the hospital.
She spoke up again on Tuesday, and told the BBC's Drivetime programme that everyone entering the hospital should be asked to use hand sanitiser.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has now announced that visiting has been suspended at all of its hospitals and say essential visitors who do go in will be greeted by volunteers asking them to use the sanitiser.
