    Two sisters have chalked rainbow colours to the front of their home in Bishopbriggs to offer some cheer amid Scotland's lockdown.

    Mya, 10, and Mollie, five, got three boxes of chalk to keep them entertained.

    Their mum, Nikki Murray, said the girls spent about two hours over three days colouring each of the bricks. They got adult help for the top half of the house.

    Nikki said they still have enough chalk left over for more outdoor colouring in.

    Supermarkets are struggling to identify vulnerable customers in most need of home deliveries during the coronavirus outbreak.

    Most major retailers which run online deliveries say they want to give priority to those in greatest need.

    Booking slots are released for two or three weeks time, but they are being quickly snapped up due to high demand.

  6. How many coronavirus cases are there in Scotland?published at 15:41 British Summer Time 1 April 2020

    The Scottish government has published its daily update, external on the number of confirmed cases and deaths from coronavirus in Scotland.

    There have now been 2,310 positive tests for Covid-19 in Scotland and 76 people have died.

    The actual number of infections is likely to be far higher.

    Coronavirus tests

    Scotland's chief medical officer, Dr Catherine Calderwood, has said previously that every death represents about 1,000 cases, and each patient in intensive care potentially represents another 500 cases.

    By this measure, there could be almost 150,000 people infected in Scotland.

  7. Campus firms offer help in virus fightpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 1 April 2020

    Companies and organisations at the Inverness Campus are offering their skills and equipment to help fight the spread of coronavirus.

    The firms include Aseptium and 4c Engineering which are working on producing personal protective equipment (PPE).

    ODx Innovations is setting up clinical testing and diagnostics, and the University of the Highlands and Islands' offer of help includes making available its laboratory facilities.

    Laboratory staff at Scotland's Rural College at the campus have offered their expertise.

    NHS Borders has released the information as part of its latest Covid-19 update.

    It said that there were currently 29 patients who had tested positive being treated in its hospitals with a further 24 suspected cases.

    It said eight people had now died but eight patients had also recovered and been discharged from hospital.

    A new body responsible for stimulating growth and employment opportunities across Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders has officially been launched.

    The South of Scotland Enterprise Agency comes into being in difficult economic times due to the coronavirus outbreak.

    Prof Russel Griggs, who chairs the agency, said: “Today we go live as the new economic agency for the south of Scotland in the middle of a global public health crisis which is impacting on our economy.

    "We need to recognise the severity of the situation for many and we also need to look ahead to supporting the recovery."

    A beauty therapist who has no income while her Edinburgh business is closed during the lockdown said she was close to tears when a client sent her a cheque in the post in a bid to help her out.

    Carole Fortune, who runs Carole’s Beauty Therapy from her Oxgang’s home, said the act of kindness from the retired woman had left her “touched” and “surprised”.

    Ms Fortune, 55, who has two children, said: “We don’t get our self-employed government grant until June so when I saw the £100 cheque in the envelope I couldn’t believe it.

    “For a client to think about me in this way and to send me a gift like this is incredibly kind. I’m so touched.

    “It is very tough times at the moment.”
