The owner of a Scottish chain of care homes has told BBC Scotland he believes nearly two thirds of his homes have Coronavirus cases.

Robert Kilgour, who runs Renaissance Care, has already warned the sector is facing a "tsunami of deaths" from the virus.

The number of deaths in Scotland with coronavirus does not include suspected care home deaths, Mr Kilgour told Good Morning Scotland.

37% of the total number of care homes in Scotland now have reported cases, or suspected cases, of coronavirus.

  5. Call for more clarity on social health care staff pay risepublished at 09:24 British Summer Time 13 April 2020

    Good Morning Scotland
    BBC Radio Scotland

Union leaders say they're seeking clarity on a Scottish government announcement to give social health care staff a pay rise in the midst of the pandemic.

They're to receive a 3.3% increase backdated from April 1st.

GMB Scotland has welcomed the move but say it needs to go "much further" and it must be clear which workers it will apply to, while Unison Scotland say when the crisis is over, there must be no slipping back.

Speaking on Good Morning Scotland, Health Secretary Jeane Freeman said they've moved to fast track the settlement in recognition of critical role of care workers play.

Ms Freeman confirmed the pay rise applies to those social health care staff working for local authorities or companies with contracts with local authorities, as well as staff in the independent sector and personal assistants.

She explained that the Scottish government and COSLA announced the pay rise now, so that staff will not need to wait for it to be backdated at a point later in the year following negotiations, as has happened in previous years.

Bonfires have been banned across Edinburgh during the Coronavirus lockdown in a bid to keep the air clear for people who are self isolating.

The move by City of Edinburgh Council comes after it suspended its garden waste collection.

People have been told to compost rather than burn their vegetation during the lockdown period.

People who are self isolating rely on fresh air from open windows as they are unable to leave their homes.

Officials said people must help them by not creating any pollution that could make their condition worse.
