First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that the four nations had agreed a relaxation of the rules for Christmas
But she made clear that the rules would not be eased for Hogmanay
Ms Sturgeon explained: "The last thing we want to do right now is set our progress back and negate all of these hard sacrifices we have made in the last eight months."
In the past 24 hours, 771 new coronavirus cases were logged. Over the same period, 41 deaths of people who had tested positive have been registered
Except for East Lothian going from level three to level two at 6pm, all other local authorities will remain in their existing tier
Midlothian had hoped to go down to level two today, but the Scottish government has put that move on hold after a rise in cases

Labour MSP Neil Findlay raises concerns about the discharging of patients to care homes without two negative tests, during topical questions.
The two test policy was introduced in April, but the health secretary has confirmed such discharges are still allowed.
Jeane Freeman said it was "right and proper" that clinicians had the final say in exceptional cases.
The health secretary today says the length of time people cannot visit a care home where a Covid case has been identified is being looked at.

Scotland's local Covid-19 alert levels are due to be reviewed, although First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she does not expect "much, if any, change".
Where each local authority area sits in the five-level system is reviewed every Tuesday ahead of an update at Holyrood.
No areas are expected to be moved up a level, with 11 central belt councils to remain in level four until 11 December.
Ms Sturgeon said the "overwhelming majority" of areas were likely to remain at their current level.
