  2. Highest number of people catching Covid-19 in hospital recordedpublished at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    The number of people who caught Covid-19 in hospital was higher than at any other time during the pandemic in the most recent figures from HPS.

    244 cases were reported as definite hospital onset, and 114 as probably hospital onset, in the week ending 17 January.

    That compares to 202 definite and 48 probable in the seven days to 12 April 2020, and 219 definite and 113 probable in the week to 10 January 2021.

    In the most recent data, the likely hospital onset cases added up to around 3% of those reported to Health Protection Scotland. The vast majority of cases were community-acquired.

    The health board in the region says local compliance with lockdown restrictions "appears to be having a positive impact".

    It says the number of confirmed cases and Covid-related admissions to hospital is continuing to come down "albeit slowly".

    There are currently 29 patients across its hospitals with confirmed or suspected Covid.

    NHS Borders says to keep numbers going down everyone needs to continue to comply with restrictions.

    How do you rebook a vaccination if the weather prevents you from attending?

    The information to rebook should be on the vaccination letter people received or can be found at NHS Inform, external.

    Alternatively you can call the helpline: 0800 030 8013.

    As a last resort Nicola Sturgeon has reiterated you could e-mail her team at firstminister@gov.scot.

    The first minister has stressed no-one will miss out on getting the vaccine due to missing an appointment due to severe weather.

    There are concerns the severe weather may have impacted on the numbers able to get vaccinated yesterday and cause disruption for the rest of the week.

    Scotland is facing a second day of travel disruption after temperatures continued to plummet overnight.

    Under Covid rules, people should only be travelling for essential purposes, external, such as work, education, essential shopping and exercise.

    NHS Lothian says staff are having difficulties doing housebound vaccinations due to snow - those are affected are being contacted and appointments rearranged.

    Opposition parties have criticised a technology issue which left people in Fife waiting in the "freezing cold" for their vaccination appointments.

    The weekly National Records of Scotland figures show that as of last Sunday, 7 February, a total of 8,726 deaths have been registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

    There were 374 deaths registered from 1-7 February, a decrease of 70 deaths from the previous week.

    A Labour MSP has described the difficulties around care home visiting as "a human rights catastrophe".

    Neil Findlay was speaking at a meeting of Holyrood's Petitions committee.

    The committee was considering a plea from relatives of care home residents, who believe designated visitors should be allowed.

    Ministers say new guidelines on visiting are due shortly.

    Relatives of care home residents are telling the Scottish government it is time to let them visit their loved ones.

    After almost 11 months, many are still only seeing vulnerable relatives through windows or outside, if at all.

    The Scottish government says new guidelines on visiting are "imminent".

    MSPs have this morning discussed a petition calling for one designated visitor per care home resident to be allowed.

    Scotland's transport secretary says he is pressing the UK government to close a loophole which could allow travellers to avoid new Covid quarantine rules.

    Michael Matheson told BBC Scotland the current UK arrangements for enforced isolation in hotels were "inadequate".

    New UK quarantine rules only apply to people arriving from33 countries deemed "high risk", external, but Scotland's apply to all international travellers.

    There are fears traveller could avoid the rules by flying into England first.

    Everyone arriving in Scotland on an international flight from next Monday will have to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days at a cost of £1,750.

    The Scottish government has block-booked rooms at six hotels near Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
