    The Scottish government was warned that a "third wave" of the Covid pandemic is now taking a grip in Scotland.

    But the first minister says there is evidence that the link between cases and serious illness and death "appears to be weakening".

    One marker that wil strengthen the evidence that the vaccination programme is working as intended is if the number of Covid deaths in June remains relatively flat, or shows just a modest rise.

    Welcome to our live coverage of the Scottish government's latest coronavirus update.

    First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is due to give a statement at 12:15 alongside national clinical director Prof Jason Leitch. The first minister is expected to discuss the levels shift coming into effect at midnight.

    Glasgow, currently the only council area in level three, will move to level two at 00:00 - meaning bars can sell alcohol indoors and household visiting rules will be relaxed.
