    Leaders of the British Medical Association and the Royal College of GP's say many rural GPs are close to retirement and there are few younger doctors willing to replace them.

    Last November the government made an additional £40m is being made available to help GP practices in the most deprived areas of Scotland. 

    It will also help GPs working in remote rural communities and those looking after a significant proportion of very elderly patients.

    Opposition is growing to proposals which would allow oil tankers to undertake ship-to-ship oil transfers in the Moray Firth. 

    The plan by the Cromarty Firth port authority could see dozens of these transfers each year and millions of tonnes of crude oil pumped between the vessels.
