    Finance Secretary John Swinney says the government delivered fibre broadband to 85% of households six months early and the programme remains on track to meet the target of 95% by the end of 2017.

    "The Scottish government and its partners are extending high speed fibre broadband to around 95% of Scotland by the end of March 2018."

    In February the government struck a deal between BT-owned Openreach and the Home Builders Federation (HBF) which aims to deliver superfast broadband to all newly built homes. 

    BT said more than half of new homes would now be connected free of charge, with the rest co-funded by developers. 

    It follows criticism about a backlog of properties waiting for broadband services. The government said that it would monitor progress over the next year.

    Scottish Veterans' Garden City Housing Association Inc (SVGCA) , externalprovides and maintains houses for disabled British ex-Service, Merchant Navy, Police and Fire Brigade personnel. 

    The qualifying permanent disability need not have incurred in Service and includes chronic illness.

    The estate currently consists of 614 houses, of varying sizes and types, of which the majority are two and three bedroomed houses on two floors. 

    The houses are located on 74 sites throughout Scotland.  

    SVGCA have recently built 22 cottages to full wheelchair friendly (fully DDA compliant).

    In February 2015, the Scottish Government announced, external additional funding of £5.6 million for the People and Communities Fund in 2015-16. , external

    This increased the fund from £9.4 million to £15 million in 2015-16 and will be used to help tackle poverty and inequalities in Scotland’s most disadvantaged communities.

    Both grants and loans will also be given to help progress development at key housing sites.

    It is hoped the money will speed up the rate at which private and affordable homes are being built. The Scottish government is also looking at ways of funding more mid-market rent developments.

    Planning appeals for housing developments of more than 100 units are to be called in by Scottish ministers.

    The decision is part of new measures to accelerate house building in line with a commitment to build 50,000 affordable homes over the next five years.

    A £50m grant and loan fund has also been set up to help with issues such as financing, infrastructure and planning.

    The move has been criticised by the body which represents local authorities, Cosla.

    It would mean the Scottish government could over-rule decisions made by local councils to reject larger housing schemes.
