    GPs have lost out on £1.6bn of investment over the last 10 years, according to the Royal College of General Practitioners Scotland.

    In February it claimed there had been "cumulative cuts" to general practice's share of NHS Scotland spending over a decade.

    The RCGP Scotland is lobbying for general practice to receive 11% of the Scottish NHS budget.

    But ministers insisted GP funding had increased each year under the SNP administration.

    Opposition parties also hit out at the "staggering level of underinvestment" in community health.

    In November it was reported that thousands of patients from the south of Scotland were having to travel to another part of the country for medical treatment.

    Figures revealed that more than 6,300 people in the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway were treated outwith the region in 2014.

    Across Scotland more than 100,000 people travelled to another area to receive treatment in 2014, including to the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank.
