    Mr Lockhart says it is ironic that Keith Brown is lecturing MSPs on trade, when a Chinese firm has accused the SNP of being "shambolic Scotland".

    He says the SNP's lectures on trade policy are wearing a bit thin.

    Mr Lockhart says, unlike the SNP, the Scottish Conservatives respect the outcome of referendums.

    The Scottish Conservative trade priority is to secure and expand the links with the UK single market.

    Scottish Labour MSP Richard Leonard says the Labour position is that we need the fullest possible access to the single market which may mean joining EFTA.

    Mr Leonard says he cannot support the government because they want to make Scotland a single state.

    The Labour MSP says it is the duty of this parliament to ask questions around businesses looking for cheap labour.

    He says "we need a plan now, our own plan" and we need to act affirmatively.

    Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie says the Conservatives have been obsessed with the EU for the last 30 years.

    Mr Rennie says the risk of Brexit to higher education is high.

    He says the SNP must reflect that much of what they warn around Brexit is what his party warned around Scottish independence and he says the Lib Dems were accused of being part of "project fear".

    Mr Rennie says : "I have not given up on the UK and I will not give up on the UK."

    Tory MSP Murdo Fraser says his party are democrats, while Mr Rennie claims to be a Liberal Democrat, is he now just a Liberal.

    Mr Rennie says Mr Fraser is not being democratic in opposing a Brexit deal referendum.

    SNP MSP Gordon Macdonald says if Scotland does not remain in the single market the Edinburgh economy will be hit.

    Mr Macdonald says across Scotland there are 13,000 EU nationals studying at higher education institutions, with many of them in Edinburgh.

    He says we have to make sure that many of the young researchers can remain.

    Mr Macdonald goes on to say Scotland requires high skilled employees from both inside and outside of the EU.

    Scottish Conservative MSP Graham Simpson says there was "much guff talked during the campaign and much much more since."

    He says Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU, the UK voted to leave. He says Scotland did vote to remain in the UK.

    Mr Simpson says most people think the single market is one big single trade zone but what it is is one big regulatory zone.

    Scottish Labour MSP Daniel Johnson says trade is at the very heart of the EU.

    Mr Johnson says the financial services sector employs 100,00 people directly and another 100,000 people indirectly in Scotland. 

    Mr Johnson says banks are not waiting to see what type of Brexit we have. They are moving branches to ensure they can continue to trade.

    Mr Harvie says the ability to trade ones own labour is the key benefit of EU membership.

    The Green MSP says the consequence of leaving the EU will be the threat to people's freedoms.

    Mr Lochhead says it i important to have these debates in terms of what is happening globally.

    The SNP MSP says, following the election of Donald Trump to the US presidency, it is unclear what will happen in global markets therefore it is important to maintain links with European markets.

    Mr Findlay says the SNP have said there would be a jobs crisis and a housing crisis and he says they have held endless diversionary debates to distract from the Scottish government's own failings.

    He asks if the single market has benefited those of Spanish, Greek, Croatian or Italian origin.

    Mr Findlay asks: "Where are the demands for reform of the EU single market?".

    SNP MSP Ash Denham says the UK government has lost touch with reality.

    Ms Denham says Scotland voted clearly to stay in the EU and clarity from the Westminster government is required.

    "They are in a wait and see mode," she says.

    She says the negative impact for Scotland not being in the single market is huge with an affect on jobs and trade.

    Mr Rennie says the conservatives seem prepared to accept anything, "they don't care as long as we are out of Europe."

    The Lib Dem leader says the promise was given that the UK would remain in the single market ahead of the referendum. 

    He says the Liberal Democrats will oppose the "blank cheque Brexit". 

    Mr Rennie says we need to make sure we have a Brexit deal referendum. He says the Lib Dems will oppose Article 50 unless this is given.

    The government says it "does not recognise" a leaked memo's claim that it has no overall plan for Brexit.

    A spokesman said the "unsolicited document" came from an external accountancy firm and had "no authority".

    Obtained by The Times, external, it warns Whitehall is working on 500 Brexit-related projects and could need 30,000 extra staff.

    And it highlights "divisions within the cabinet" over Brexit strategy.

    Mr Rennie says the UK government are "in chaos" over Brexit  and refers to the leaked memo claiming there is no overall plan for Brexit.

    He says no Brexit deal will be better than what we have right now.
