    SNP MSP Bruce Crawford says there should be "respect" and he has seen many articles with language inciting "hate and division".

    Mr Crawford says the parliament should "lead from the front" and that friends and colleagues should show respect for one another's point of view. 

    The SNP MSP says the EU referendum result saw 62% of the people of Scotland asking to remain the EU and the people have the right to "solve this conundrum". 

    He says voting "no" in 2014 has turned out to be a guarantee that the UK would leave the EU.

    Mr Rennie says there has been great progress in reforming the UK.

    The Scottish Lib Dem leader says: "We should be proud of what we achieve together."

    He says he wants to create a federal UK with a written constitution.

    Mr Rennie says there is a positive case for the UK and its "about the values we share".

    He says: "It is not about flags it is about the ties that bind us together."

    Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie says division with Europe is not resolved by division with the UK.

    Mr Rennie says "we do not respond to the break with Europe with a break to the UK".

    The Scottish Lib Dem leader says this government is distracted by their mission of independence. 

    He says the Scottish government is on a "mission" despite the country's failing education system.

    "They are only in it for their own good," he adds.

    Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie uses his amendment to say that a second independence referendum in Scotland would only compound the uncertainty of Brexit and its risk to the economy, environment and security.

    Mr Rennie says that public opinion show that there is no appetite for such a vote.

    The Scottish Lib Dem leader says there is no mandate for another Scottish independence referendum on the basis of the UK leaving the EU.

    He says there are no cast-iron guarantees that full membership of the EU will be sought or granted.

    Mr Rennie supports the development of a positive future for Scotland inside a federal UK.

    Mr Rennie says Alex Salmond very clearly said EFTA is the SNP plan.

    He says the Greens secured funds that were going to be spent anyway in the budget and says they are not green but "a bland shade of beige".

    Scottish Greens co-convener Patrick Harvie says the idea of delaying a referendum until after 2019 fundamentally misrepresents leaving the EU as something good.

    Mr Harvie says a deal negotiated by a UK government that Scotland did not choose leaves the people of Scotland "voiceless".

    Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson intervenes to say there are many Scots who are "furious" that their vote to remain is being used for another independence referendum. 

    Scottish Co-convener Patrick Harvie says there are also many who are "furious" that they may be taken out of the EU against their will.

    Labour MSP Neil Findlay intervenes to ask, if Scotland does leave the UK, will there be another referendum to ask the people of Scotland if they want to rejoin the EU.

    Mr Harvie says he would be happy to debate that, when the time comes.

    Scottish Green co-convener Patrick Harvie says he has seen keyboard warriors on both sides of the independence argument.

    Mr Harvie says the future of Scotland must be decided by the people that live here.

    He adds that 2014 was an expression of the will of the people, but so was 2016

    Mr Harvie says 55%  of people voted to remain part of the UK and 62% voted to stay in the EU and the UK government has failed to reconcile this.
