    Greens MSP Ross Greer says says the Kurds rescued the Yazidi people, who were exiled in the mountains, from Daesh.

    Mr Greer says this story was not covered in the media.

    He says the Kurds have built a multi-cultural society in Northern Syria where Yazidi people have joined the defences with victims of genocide and that is to be admired.

    Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald says: "I too thank Ben Macpherson for bringing this debate today, the day after Daesh inspired murder came to Westminster Bridge and New Palace Yards.

    "Our thoughts go to all the victims of those murders and their families around the world."

    "Daesh is an organistion dedicated to killing all who stand in its way."

    Mr Macdonald goes on to say the Yazidi population has faced genocide, with the murder of men and boys by the thousands and the enslavement and rape of women and girls.

    He says Daesh do not represent the true Muslim faith and want to create a "hell on earth".

    The Labour MSP says we should commend the bravery of the Yazidi people.

    He says the UN security council should be sent a letter by the Iraqi government to trigger an investigation of the crimes of Daesh in Iraq.

    Hundreds of Yazidi women have been forced into sexual slavery by the self-style Islamic State.

    In August 2014,an atrocity helped launch the international campaign to turn back the advance of so-called Islamic State (IS). 

    Thousands of terrified villagers fled for their lives near Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq, as heavily armed IS fighters attacked their ancestral homeland.

    The victims were Yazidis, an ancient community considered heretical or even sub-human by IS jihadists. Hundreds fled up the mountainside where many died in the scorching heat.

    Most of the men of fighting age who were captured were summarily slaughtered.

    For the women and girls rounded up by IS, a living hell awaited.

    The SNP MSP says it has been reported that "7,000 Yazidi women have been captured as sex slaves."

    He refers to brave Yazidi woman Nasra Ahmad who experienced this and now speaks out about those experiences.

    Mr Macpherson also draws attention to the unopposed motion agreed by the UK Parliament on 20 April 2016.

    He says there area calls for the UK government to take immediate and resolute action in support of international efforts to prevent further atrocities, and to meet its international obligation to provide refuge to those at risk of persecution.

    The SNP MSP also calls on the UK government to request that the UN Security Council refer the genocide committed against the Yazidi people to the International Criminal Court.

    report, external  says IS has subjected members of the religious group it has captured to the "most horrific of atrocities", killing or enslaving thousands.

    The group's aim is to completely erase the Yazidi way of life, it warns.

    The report says major powers should do more to help the Yazidis, at least 3,200 of whom are being held by IS.

    IS, a Sunni jihadist group, regards Yazidis as devil-worshippers who may be killed or enslaved with impunity.

    Mr Macpherson uses his motion to condemn the genocide perpetrated against the Yazidi people by Daesh or so-called Islamic State as they are also known.

    The SNP MSP highlights the great human suffering and loss that have been inflicted by bigotry, brutality and religious intolerance.

    Mr Macpherson also says condemns the crimes Daesh have committeed against Muslims, Christians, Arabs, Kurds and all of the religious and ethnic communities of Iraq and Syria.

    He welcomes the actions of the US Congress, the European Parliament, the French Senate, the UN and others in formally recognising the genocide.

    More than 100 children who began receiving specialist mental health care in the last three months of 2016 had waited more than a year to get help.

    NHS Scotland figures, external  showed that 4,222 patients started treatment from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) over the period.

    Of these, 101 had waited 53 weeks or more for their specialist help.

    Only 16 patients had to wait more than a year in the last quarter of 2015, the statistics showed.

    The NHS in Scotland provides specialist mental health care for children and young people suffering from conditions including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, behaviour problems, depression and early onset psychosis.

    Tory MSP Graham Simpson asks what the Scottish government's response is to reports that, in 2015, around one-in-five referrals to child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) were rejected and, over the last three years, approximately 17,000 children and young people have been affected.

    Ms Sturgeon says all children are assessed on an individual basis.

    She says the new mental health strategy will be brought forward next week and it will contain an audit of rejected referrals.

    Mr Simpson says five health boards are not meeting the 18 week CAMHS target.

    The first minister says if mental health problems can be identified in young people then problems in later life can be avoided.

    That is why the importance of CAMHS will be stressed in the mental health strategy, she says.

    Ms Sturgeon says progress is being made on the 18 week target and mental health stigma is reducing.

    Lib Dem MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton calls for a national falls strategy. 

    The first minister says she will get the health secretary to write to Mr Cole-Hamilton to describe efforts to combat the fear of falling older people have.

    Ms Sturgeon says for many older people the consequences of having a fall can be really severe.

    She says there must be a preventative approach to falls.
