    NHS Waiting Times Centre chief executive Jill Young says there has not been a delayed discharge at the Golden Jubilee in the last ten years.

    Ms Young says the hospital has contact with social work departments across Scotland.

    Green MSP Alison Johnstone says when an NHS board cannot perform operations locally they can opt to send patients to the Golden Jubilee or to private facilities.

    Ms Johnstone asks if there has been analysis into how the Golden Jubilee could pick up the work going to the private sector.

    NHS Waiting Times Centre chief executive Jill Young says that there are some operations that the Golden Jubilee do not perform that have to be performed privately. 

    Ms Young says one of the reasons for expansion is to bring private costs down.

    NHS Waiting Times Centre chief executive Jill Young says the Golden Jubilee looks at "what matters to the patient rather than what is the matter with them." 

    Ms Young says good communication with patients before they come anywhere near the jubilee is important. 

    She says that looking at indicators and complaints is also important. 

    Ms Young says the Golden Jubilee also does a follow up with patients after their care to check how they are and if anything could have been done differently.

    Jill Young says analysis of the impact of Brexit was done but it was deemed a low risk at this point.

    Labour MSP Colin Smyth says there is a national shortage of consultants in yet the Golden Jubilee is looking to expand.

    Mr Smyth asks how challenging this will be. 

    NHS Waiting Times Centre chief executive Jill Young says the expansion is 3-5 years away and when the Golden Jubilee recruits it is trying not to take professionals away from other areas.

    Ms Young says the hospital tends to have a number of specialists coming forward and there is only one position where no one has come forward.

    NHS Waiting Times Centre medical director Mike Higgins says that the challenges faced are the same as those faced by the rest of the NHS.

    Mr Higgins says "it is a very attractive place to work and people out there do want to work in the Golden Jubilee."

    Tory MSP Donald Cameron raises concerns about the level of cancelled operations.

    NHS Waiting Times Centre director of operations June Rogers says the cardiac service can lead to cancellations, due to transplants.

    Ms Rogers says in the last year there were equipment issues in opthalmology.

    She says the hospital is cutely aware which areas need to be addressed.

    Mr McKee says there is a strategic attempt to replicate what the Golden Jubilee does and asks whether it makes more sense to use the money locally or invest more in the Golden Jubilee.

    SNP MSP Ivan McKee says there is an under utilisation of capacity at 68% and he asks why.

    NHS Waiting Times Centre chief executive Jill Young says at the moment the hospital is full and the figure relates to occupancy on the wards not operations.

    Ms Young says the hospital is running six days a week and to get the theatres running seven days a week more staff are needed.

    She says an expansion of the Golden Jubilee is under planning at the moment.

    Mr McKee asks how the hospital is impacted by other health boards.

    In February we reported there had been a further decline in the number of NHS patients who begin treatment 18 weeks after referral, figures have shown.

    Figures up to the 31 December 2016 show 83.8% of patients started treatment within 18 weeks - a fall from 87.1% in December 2015.

    The Scottish government's waiting time target is for 90% of patients to start treatment within that timeframe.

    Opposition parties have criticised the government for the missed targets.

    NHS Waiting Times Centre chief executive Jill Young says there have been 15 successful years.

    Ms Young says the centre  is now better known as the Golden Jubilee Foundation.

    She outlines the role of the foundation and points out it is running 80 research studies.

    Ms Young praise the staff at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.

    The first minister said the Scottish government was considering the request from surgeons

    A request from surgeons to be allowed to carry out lung transplants in Scotland for the first time is being considered by the Scottish government.

    The Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank is currently the only heart transplant unit in the UK which cannot also offer lung replacement surgery.

    First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said ministers were investigating whether the proposal could go ahead.

    The Golden Jubilee is celebrating 25 years since its first heart transplant.

    A decision on lung transplants is expected be made next year.
