MSPs unanimously agree the general principles of the Forestry and Land Management (Scotland) Bill, external.
MSPs now consider the Forestry and Land Management (Scotland) Bill's financial resolution.
Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing pays tribute to the forestry staff by saying: "The forestry staff regard it not as a job, but as a calling."
Mr Ewing says: "We need to increase the pace and skill of planting to meet our targets.
"I am carefully considering the comments made on compulsory purchase orders.
"The fact that we have the power does not mean that it is necessary we use it."

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing says this has been an excellent debate and mostly consensual.
Mr Ewing agrees with Stewart Stevenson about the "huge importance of forestry to Scotland throughout the centuries".
On a more serious note he says he is happy to speak to all parties ahead of Stage 2 considerations of the Forestry and Land Management Bill.
The minister says the new functions will maintain the distinction between Forestery Commission Scotland and Forest Enterprise Scotland.

Conservative MSP Jamie Greene says: "Planting targets have been missed every year since 2001. We must have an honest conversation around this."
He criticses remarks by SNP MSP John Mason for "painting quite an unwarranted make-up of the Rural Economy Committee."
Mr Greene said: "To my knowledge no member has a declared interest in forestry and every member of the committee has approached this Bill with nothing more than good will and good intent.
"I think the suggestion otherwise is churlish and I hope he might reflect on his comments on that."

Labour MSP David Stewart says forests play a number of roles from combating climate change to providing jobs and bringing in tourism.
Mr Stewart says the Forestry and Land Management (Scotland) Bill will devolve forestry to Scottish ministers.
He says: "The very nature of forestry involves long term planning."
The Labour MSP quotes the ancient Greek proverb: "A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."
