  1. Brexit recap: MSPs to get chance to vote on Brexit deal before Westminsterpublished at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2018

Brexit Secretary Mike Russell has said that MSPs at Holyrood will get the chance to vote on the Brexit deal before the UK Parliament does.

He said that while Mrs May's deal was "essentially dead" after it prompted a string of resignations from her Government, the Scottish Parliament would have a symbolic vote on it.

Mr Russell said: "The Scottish Government will bring the deal, if agreed at the Brussels Summit on November 25, to this chamber for a vote, before a vote takes place in the House of Commons."

Mr Russell insisted: "Brexit isn't a better future - it is a backward step into an imagined past.

"We must acknowledge that this deal is unacceptable to Scotland and her citizens. It therefore cannot be supported by this government.

"This deal is the inevitable result of a series of self-imposed draconian red lines. It is now essentially dead.

"We must find a way to work together and ensure that our country is not failed by a disastrous Brexit, but enabled to flourish by choosing a different way forward."

  2. Brexit secretary says pro Brexit arguments were a 'lie'published at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2018

Brexit Secretary Mike Russell concludes saying: "The arguments they [Conservatives] put forward in 2014 turn out to be completely and utterly untrue.

"They were, presiding officer, in other words, a lie."

This gets Mr Russell a mild rebuke from the presiding officer and the statement comes to an end.

Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey and junior Brexit minister Suella Braverman have also quit.

PM Theresa May took largely hostile questions from MPs for nearly three hours over the agreement.

Green MSP Ross Greer says his party will work with the government and others to give as close to a unified voice from Holyrood as possible.

Mr Greer says a UK cabinet secretary said he couldn't guarantee "people couldn't die" as a result of a no deal.

The Brexit secretary says he will bring details before Christmas.

Labour MSP Neil Findlay says this is the "end game of the 40 year civil war in the Tories in Europe".

Mr Findlay insists his party will not back this "bad deal".

He says: "This cannot be a choice between a bad deal and a disastrous no-deal."

    Neil Findlay

The Labour MSP calls for the government's plans to be published and points out the situation between Northern Ireland is completely different and warns against creating a hard border with the rest of the UK.

He calls for a general election, echoing his Scottish Labour Party leader.

The general election is one of the options on the table, confirms Mr Russell.

Mr Russell agrees peace in Northern Ireland is absolutely important and he points out that his plans do not include a hard border.

  11. Tory MSP says this statement is a 'cocktail of contrived grievance'published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2018

    Adam Tomkins

Tory MSP Adam Tomkins says this statement is a "cocktail of contrived grievance".

Mr Tomkins says, unlike the Brexit secretary, he respects the results of referendums.

He accepts the Brexit deal must be subject to parliamentary scrutiny.

The Tory MSP says Mr Russell wants a deal that is so differentiated that Scotland would remain in the single market and customs union, which would threaten the union.

Mr Russell does not agree with Mr Tomkins and criticises the Tory MSP's approach to Brexit.

The Tory party is literally falling apart before our eyes, he says.

  12. 'The people of Scotland have been ignored and dismissed'published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2018

    Breaking

Mr Russell says Scotland, which had the highest vote for remaining in the EU, will be dragged out against its will and be economically disadvantaged.

    Mike Russell

Mr Russell accuses the prime minister of putting in place "draconian red lines" in the Brexit negotiations, and on the deal he says "it is now essentially dead".

He says the deal makes a differentiation between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

"Scotland does not exist in her [Theresa May] thinking about this deal."

This deal does not meet the Scottish government requirements of staying in a single market and a customs union and the SNP and Scottish government cannot back the deal.

  20. Background: Jamal Khashoggi: All you need to know about Saudi journalist's deathpublished at 13:22 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2018

    Jamal Khashoggi

On 2 October, Jamal Khashoggi, a well-known journalist and critic of the Saudi government, walked into the country's consulate in Istanbul. He has not been seen since.

Turkish officials believe he was murdered by a team of Saudi agents inside the building and say they have evidence, including gruesome audio recordings, to back this up.

After initial denials and claims that he had left the consulate shortly after arriving, Saudi Arabia has now admitted the journalist is dead.

The kingdom says Khashoggi was killed in a "rogue operation" that the leadership had not been aware of.

The steady stream of disturbing allegations, along with the complex diplomatic situation, means that it can be difficult to keep track of the full story.

Read what we know about the case here.
