    She says each and everyone of these 500 incidents could have had disastrous consequences for Scotland and beyond.

    SNP MSP Christine Grahame raises the recent conclusion of Operation Sandwood, which found there was "no criminality" in the handling of the Lockerbie bombing investigation.

    The first minister says it would be inappropriate for her to comment on the investigation.

    Labour MSP Iain Gray turns back to the teacher pay row, urging the first minister to apologise for the "misleading letter" which attempted to "undermine the negotiating machinery".

    Ms Sturgeon insists the letter was about providing information to teachers and it was not misleading.

    Tory MSP John Scott asks about the ongoing incident at the Aisla Hospital in Ayr where a nurse has been stabbed.

    The hospital is on lockdown following the incident which took place at about 10:15.

    Will the first minister make certain that a full review is conducted to make staff safe, asks Mr Scott.

    Ms Sturgeon tells the chamber that her understanding is that the injuries sustained by the nurse are not life threatening.

    The first minister pledges to find out more and get the health secretary to report back to him.

  5. Will the Scottish government force teachers into industrial action asks Harviepublished at 12:33 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2018

    Scottish Green Party co-convener Patrick Harvie says he is glad the first minister accepts the mandate from teachers with 98% voting to reject the deal.

    Mr Harvie insists teachers are demeaned by seeing their salaries eroded year after year.

    He asks if the Scottish government will force teachers into industrial action or give a realistic offer and fund the councils to deliver it.

    We want to see a realistic offer made and accepted, reiterates the first minister.

    She says the government will go back to the table to negotiate.

    The first minister says the pay deal must be affordable.

    Scottish Green co-convener Patrick Harvie says teacher wages have been cut by nearly a quarter in the last decade.

    He points to the recent vote which saw the most recent pay offer rejected by 98% of those who voted.

    The first minister says she recognises the strength of feeling and confirms Cosla and the Scottish government will return to the table to reconsider the offer.

    The pay rise being asked for is "not affordable" in a single year, Ms Sturgeon adds.

    She insists the pay offer must be both fair and affordable.

    Ms Sturgeon says the reactor is offline until the regulator is content it is safe to turn it on.

    Labour MSP James Kelly asks about a Scottish Enterprise grant being paid to 2 Sisters in Cambuslang, which has since closed.

    Scottish Enterprise is actively in discussion with 2 Sisters about the grant being returned, given its continued operation was stipulated in the agreement, replies the first minister.

    SNP MSP Alasdair Allan says following the agreement of a Brexit political declaration, fishing will be a bargaining chip, with the UK determined to negotiate like a "minnow with a shark".

    Mr Allan asks if Scottish Secretary David Mundell should consider his position.

    Ms Sturgeon replies the political declaration represents another Tory sell out of fishermen by the UK government with them being used as a bargaining chip.

    The EU and UK have agreed a draft agreement on their future relationship, paving the way for a Brexit deal to be finalised this weekend.

    The first minister says if David Mundell is still in office by the end of today he will have forfeited for ever any scrap of credibility or priincple he had.

    There have been more than 500 safety incidents at the home of the UK's nuclear submarine fleet in the past 12 years, it has been revealed.

    Two events at HM Naval Base Clyde had "high potential for radioactive release to the environment", according to the Ministry of Defence.

    But in "neither [Category A] event was any radiological contamination evident", the MoD confirmed.

    The figures were disclosed in response to a parliamentary question.

    One of Scotland's biggest teaching unions has warned it is "very likely" that teachers will take strike action after rejecting a "final" pay offer.

    The Scottish Secondary Teachers Association said its members had sent a "strong message" to the government.

    The Scottish government had offered a headline 3% rise, with bigger increases for staff on lower grades.

    Council body Cosla said the unions' demand for a 10% increase could not be met in a single year.

    Mr Leonard insists this government has not only failed to stop Tory austerity, it has added to it.

    The Scottish Labour leader says teachers are having to buy supplies for classrooms due to cuts.
