The number of people travelling by bus has dropped by nearly 100 million over the past decade, according to figures.

There were 388 million journeys by local bus services in 2017/18, down from 487 million in 2007/08.

There was also a 13% hike in the number of cars registered in Scotland since 2007.

  9. Harvie says transport figures make grim readingpublished at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2019

Scottish Green Party co-convener Patrick Harvie says the government has published its transport figures which makes for grim reading, given the climate change crisis and the February heatwave.

Mr Harvie cites more road traffic and air traffic, and less use of public transport and bicycles.

The first minister says greenhouse gas emissions from transport are lower now than in 2007, but she agrees it is important to encourage people to look at different modes of transport.

Ms Sturgeon cites £1bn of funding aimed at doing this and highlights the forthcoming transport bill.

The first minister says new work will start in March which will see 90 people employed, while DF Barnes and the government is "fighting hard" to secure contract.

Tory MSP Oliver Mundell says it is "totally unacceptable" for patients to be transferred to a GP in a different town and calls for a review of this issue in Annandale.

Ms Sturgeon says she will ask the health secretary to look into the case, before pointing to efforts to increase the number of GPs in Scotland.

Ms Sturgeon says this is a tragic case for all three siblings and adds she would expect the local authority to provide this support.

Tory MSP Peter Chapman raises the issue of 9,000 people waiting beyond the 12 week target in NHS Grampian.

The first minister accepts waiting times are not as good as she wants them to be, which is why the waiting times improvement plan has been put n place.
