  1. Leonard: 'Brexit isn’t the only reason Theresa May must go'published at 12:13 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

    Richard Leonard

Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard says while MPs cannot make a decision, too many people in the real world are having to make “heart-breaking decisions” after a decade of Tory austerity.

Over half a million food packages were handed out in Scotland in the last 18 months, he says.

Mr Leonard says: “Brexit isn’t the only reason Theresa May must go.”

The first minister agrees with this assessment, adding that "if Labour hadn't teamed up with the Tories" on Better Together, May would not be the prime minister of Scotland.

  2. Sturgeon: PM's deal is deadpublished at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

    Nicola Sturgeon

Mr Carlaw says there is no alternative to the prime minister's deal, which is supported by 27 EU countries and businesses in Scotland.

The national interest is served by backing the deal and getting on with it, he argues.

Ms Sturgeon retorts the prime minister's deal is not even backed by her own party.

The first minister insists "that deal is dead".

  4. Carlaw: PM's deal is best way forwardpublished at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

Mr Carlaw says the first minister doesn't stand up for the Scottish interest, but the nationalist interest.

He goes on to highlight that all eight options on the table at the Commons yesterday were rejected.

Doesn't the result demonstrate that the best way forward is to support the prime minister's deal?, he asks.

Ms Sturgeon says the compromise the SNP put forward was not on the ballot paper last night.

She goes on the highlight that both a customs union and a 'People's Vote' secured more votes than the PM's deal has done.

  6. Carlaw: No principle in way SNP voted last nightpublished at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

    jackson carlaw

Mr Carlaw retorts there was no principle in the way the SNP voted last night and in contrast the prime minister has said she is willing to resign to get Brexit through.

He accuses the first minister of obsession.

Ms Sturgeon repies she has to laugh at Mr Carlaw raising the prime minister's stance pointing out Mrs May is saying 'if you don't back me I'll stay'.

"Mrs May is the only prime minister who has tried to fall on her own sword and missed", Ms Sturgeon says to laughter in the chamber.

The Brexit process remains in deadlock as MPs struggle to find a consensus on the next steps.

The Commons failed to find a majority for a way forward after voting for eight different options on Wednesday.

And while some senior Brexiteers have moved towards supporting Theresa May's deal, the MPs she relies on in the DUP have refused to alter their stance.

The PM won some support by saying she would resign ahead of the next round of EU negotiations if her deal passes.

Tory deputy leader Jackson Carlaw says demonstrations are a democratic right and gets back to his question.

He says SNP MPs refused to back the policy on Brexit they have been demanding.

Is it not the case when push comes to shove it is not about Brexit but the obsession with independence?, the Scottish Conservative deputy leader asks.

The first minister points out the Tory Scottish secretary abstained last night.

Nicola Sturgeon says the options of staying in the single market and customs union was not on the ballot paper last night.

She argues the whole process is such a mess that stopping Brexit must be the priority.

The first pictures have emerged of cracking in the graphite bricks which make up the core of nuclear reactors at Hunterston B Power Station in Ayrshire.

Reactor three has not produced electricity since cracks were found to be forming more quickly than expected.

About 370 hairline fractures have been discovered which equates to about one in every 10 bricks in the reactor core.

Owner EDF Energy says it does intend to seek permission from the Office of Nuclear Regulation (ONR) to restart.

It first has to prove it can still shut down the North Ayrshire reactor, which has not produced electricity for a year, in all circumstances.
