  1. Coronavirus plans in place says FMpublished at 12:48 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

The first minister says there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Scotland but it would be prudent to assume this will change in the days and weeks ahead.

Health Protection Scotland and the Scottish government are working closely with health boards on preparedness for potential cases, she adds.

Testing facilities in Edinburgh and Glasgow have enabled quicker notification of results, she says.

Ms Baillie says it is a matter of time before cases are found in Scotland.

She calls for sufficient infection control staff and hospital beds to control the virus.

Ms Sturgeon says the pandemic flu plan is in use to prepare resources and response planning. Plans are well under way and the health secretary will keep parliament updated going forward, she adds.

The first minister says reducing the incidence of type 2 diabetes is a priority and supporting people to make health choices is critical.

Mr Greene says the reality is that type 2 diabetes is on the rise.

The Tory MSP asks the first minister what is being done to improve treatment and does she agree it was a mistake to remove health checks at 40 years old.

Ms Sturgeon agrees prevention, early detection and intervention are important.

Labour MSP David Stewart calls for radical and immediate action to address the long term complications caused by the condition.

The first minister agrees, reiterating that prevention is crucial and treatment is important.

The first minister says everyone should be given information about treatment and care in a format accessible to them.

Ms Grahame says a GP centre in Newbattle is using e-consult as a default for booking appointments with only a few exceptions.

She warns those unable to use this service are having to attend A&E instead.

Ms Sturgeon says there is a place for e-booking systems but accepts they are not suitable for everyone, and confirms she will ask the health secretary to look into the Newbattle case.

Ms Lennon asks: "What action has been taken to end these shocking delays?"

SNP MSP Richard Lyle asks whether the UK government has responded to proposals for a Scottish visa. The first minister says ministers have dismissed them, before describing the migration plan published yesterday as "shocking and shameful".

Welcoming Ms Sturgeon's comments on immigration, Green MSP Andy Wightman says a clear signal that Scotland is welcoming would be giving asylum seekers a right to vote as part of the Scottish Elections (Franchise and Representation) Bill. Ms Sturgeon says the government wants to see asylum seekers welcomed and adds those that live here should feel they are able to contribute.

The Scottish government is staying in close contact with regulators, she adds.

Green MSP Mark Ruskell says ministers have refused to meet with the local community and urges the first minister to ensure the government is represented at an emergency meeting this week.

I’m very happy to consider requests made, replies Ms Sturgeon, before adding regulatory enforcement actions are under way and ministers must respect the independence of this process.

The environment secretary will be happy to keep members updated, she says.

  20. Leonard: 'Workforce crisis in primary care services'published at 12:18 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

The Scottish Labour leader says there is a workforce crisis in primary care services that goes all the way back to the first minister's door.

Ten years ago Nicola Sturgeon was the health secretary responsible for this, he adds.

"The NHS faces challenges in every part of the UK," points out Ms Sturgeon.

We are putting record sums of money into our NHS and there are record numbers of staff, the first minister insists.

She says that is why the NHS is performing better in Scotland than the rest of the UK.
