    Ticket touts at Euro 2020 face a fine of up to £5,000 under new legislation passed by the Scottish government.

    MSPs voted unanimously in favour of the Uefa European Championship (Scotland) Bill on Tuesday.

    It bans the resale of tickets for next summer's finals in excess of face value or with a view to making a profit.

    Glasgow is one of 12 host cities at Euro 2020, with Hampden staging three group matches and a last-16 tie from 15 to 30 June.

    Scotland face Israel in a play-off semi-final in March as they attempt to end a 22-year absence from major tournaments.

    Public Finance Minister Ben Macpherson says he will say more about the coronavirus in due course, however he adds: "We are proceeding on the basis that the tournament will go ahead."

    Lucy Carmichael for the Scottish government says even if the event is postponed it would be useful to have the ticket touting offence in force.

    Mr Macpherson says if there were to be a cancellation due to coronavirus, an amendment to the primary legislation may be required.

    The remedial order proposes to change the exception to the ticket touting offence contained within the UEFA European Championship (Scotland) Act.

    The Act provides Scottish Ministers with the power to enact secondary legislation concerning the advertising, trading and ticket touting offences

    This follows the announcement that a company, led by Sean Connery's son Jason, has won the tender to run a large-scale film and TV studio space in Edinburgh's Port of Leith.

    The government is expected to announce that it is stepping up its response to the coronavirus.

    It is anticipated the UK will switch to tactics aimed at delaying its spread, rather than containing it, when the government's emergency committee meets.
