    Wales international Jamie Roberts has written a blog while volunteering with the NHS.

    The qualified doctor has returned from South Africa, where he has been playing for Stormers, and has become involved with the Cardiff and Vale health board.

    Posting it on Twitter, the centre wrote: "A difficult piece to write.

    "Spent some time with a few Intensive Care Consultants today at the unit. A story of meticulous planning and execution, in order to give our most critical patients the best chance."

  4. Welsh Youth Parliament thanks NHS staff in videopublished at 22:16 British Summer Time 15 April 2020

    A video thanking NHS staff the length and breadth of Wales for their work during the coronavirus pandemic has been created by the Welsh Youth Parliament.

    Jonathon Dawes, youth parliament member for the Vale of Clwyd, posted the video on Wednesday night.

    The video shows different members giving messages of "thank you" and "diolch".

    Jonathon posted: "Proud to have organised a video to all NHS workers, thank you to the NHS for all the work you are doing at this time from all of us at the @WelshYouthParl, external."

    All members of the Welsh Youth Parliament are aged between 11 and 18.

    It is made up of 60 young people - 40 elected in an online ballot and the rest from organisations and charities.

    Away from coronavirus for a moment, emergency services are at the scene of a building fire in Bridgend.

    South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is tackling the blaze on Nolton Street with members of the public advised to "avoid the area" and use alternative routes.

    Police tweeted that a number of nearby properties had been evacuated.

    More than £17,000 was seized during a police "essential travel" check in Powys.

    Dyfed-Powys Police tweeted, external to say a person was being held on suspicion of money laundering after they were stopped on the A483 in Welshpool, travelling with the money.

    "Also reported for non essential travel and no tax," the force's Newtown Road Policing Unit posted on Wednesday afternoon.

    Council tenants have been urged not to use incense as they are setting off carbon monoxide alarms - and putting services under stress.

    Cardiff Council said it would always attend and do thorough checks.

    A schoolgirl has started a campaign to make cards for the 100th birthday of an Army veteran who raised more than £8m for the NHS.

    Tom Moore, 99, aimed to raise £1,000 by completing 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden by Thursday.

    He dubbed the fundraising "completely out of this world".

    In response Reegan Davies, eight, from Port Talbot, started a campaign to make cards for his 30 April birthday.

    The target is make 1,500 virtual cards.

    "You can post them on any social media with the hashtag #makeacardfortom," she said.

    Swansea University is offering accommodation to help with coronavirus pandemic.

    The institution said it was making property available to Swansea and Neath Port Talbot councils, as well as the Welsh Government and the emergency services.

    It was there for those "who need immediate accommodation for a variety of reasons".

    A spokesman said: "This may include vulnerable people, those who do not have accommodation at present and those who are unable to return to their homes in order to protect others from exposure to Covid-19."

    Water tankers had to be sent to a hospital in Powys after a pipe burst.

    Water company Hafren Dyfrdwy said it had to respond after the issue threatened the water supply at Newtown Hospital today.

    Stuart Leach, the firm's network operations lead, said: "The last thing we wanted was the hospital to struggle to treat patients due to not having any water, so we sent our tankers to the rescue.

    "The tankers injected water directly into the water pipes at the hospital and kept the water on.

    “Some of our teams are getting a bit of stick at the moment for being out and about, but we want to reassure everyone that we’re only doing the jobs that are absolutely necessary to keep water supplies on, taps flowing and toilets flushing.”

    Mass gatherings could be banned in Wales for more than a year while the hunt for a vaccine continues, a senior government adviser says.

    Dr Meirion Evans, professional adviser to Wales' chief medical officer, says the restrictions could remain until a vaccination is routinely available.

    However, he says some lockdown measures could be relaxed over the coming weeks.

    Official figures show 463 people have died with coronavirus in Wales, with 6,118 confirmed cases.

    Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas says he simply aims to "survive" three epic rides to raise money for the NHS during the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

    Tributes have been paid to a "highly committed and caring" dental nurse who has died after being treated for Covid-19.

    Linnette Cruz, 51, of Swansea, died on Tuesday after being admitted to the city's Morriston Hospital last month.

    The mother-of-one was a senior head nurse at the Brynteg dental practice in Sketty.

    Her death was "deeply upsetting" to her family - including her husband Jeonardy and son Jeonard - as well as her friends and colleagues, said Karl Bishop, dental director for Swansea Bay University Health Board.

    "She was a highly committed and caring dental nurse, respected by her colleagues, patients and the communities in which she worked," he added.

    Brynteg practice owner Nik Patel, said her friends and colleagues were devastated: “She brought love, light and joy to everyone around her and will be sadly missed by all.”
