  1. 'Reveal milestones to reopen Wales schools'published at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2021

Ministers are being urged to reveal more information about the coronavirus milestones they need to see for pupils to return to classrooms in Wales.

Children's Commissioner Sally Holland said "calm, reassuring" messages would be helpful to address pupils' anxiety.

Measures including school and college closures will be reviewed on Friday.

But First Minister Mark Drakeford has already said even after the February half-term, all pupils are unlikely to return full time.

Ms Holland said she did not expect the Welsh Government to provide a timetable, but more information was needed about the evidence being considered.

Education Minister Kirsty Williams has said she would look at "every possible option" in order to resume some face-to-face teaching, including prioritising some year groups.

A pledge that 70% of people aged over 80 would get the Covid-19 vaccine by last weekend was missed, the Welsh Government has admitted.

Weather has been blamed for the problem with figures showing 96,830, or 52.8% of that age group, had their first dose.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said many over-80s felt unsafe attending appointments amid the snow and ice.

Welsh Conservative Senedd leader Andrew RT Davies accused the government of constantly missing targets.
