    Microsoft founder Bill Gates has revealed plans to set up a network of medical facilities across Africa and Asia to prevent epidemics such as Ebola and reduce child mortality.

    He told the BBC the six sites would gather data so new epidemics could be detected early and the right vaccines could be developed fast.

    "By having these top notch lab capabilities and trained people, near where the epidemics are likely to occur, they can take diagnostic capability right to the heart of the disease, understand what's going on a lot faster," he said.
