Kenya's military has launched as search and rescue operation for the soldiers captured on Friday during an al-Shabab attack on a base in el Ade, Somalia.

The Kenyan soldiers are part of the African Union Amisom force which is supporting the Somali government in attempt to wrest control of much of the country from al-Shabab.

Kenya's Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe said the Islamist militants are using the soldiers who have been taken as human shields.

He has told Kenyans that the army is doing everything possible to rescue the soldiers alive.

Al-Shabab said on Friday that more than 60 Kenyan soldiers have been killed, but Kenya dismissed this as propaganda, but has not given a death toll itself.
