The day after a coach crash in northern Ghana killed 71 people, questions are being asked about who or what was to blame.

The transport company denies their bus developed brake failure, instead saying it was due to speeding.

I walked into a morning meeting of drivers, where the bus drivers were told they would be sacked if they drove too fast or overloaded their buses.

The bus company deny allegations that they do not service buses and do not train their drivers properly.

Yesterday investigators said that the bus, which crashed into a lorry transporting tomatoes, was overloaded with more than 70 passengers - it should have had a maximum of 63.

A transport official had added yesterday that the driver picked up other passengers on the way home from work because their vehicle had been involved in an accident.

  7. Museveni takes early lead in Uganda pollpublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2016

Uganda's incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has taken an early lead in the results that have been announced following yesterday's presidential election.

The electoral commission has compiled the results from 10,000 of the more than 28,000 polling stations.

It says that Mr Museveni has 62% of the vote and his main rival Kizza Beisgye has 33% of the vote.

The final preliminary results should be known by tomorrow.

Voting is still taking place in a handful of places where the late arrival of election materials meant that polling stations did not open.
