A world famous game reserve in Tanzania could lose its remaining elephants in the next six years if poaching continues at its current rate, according to a report commissioned by the World Wildlife Fund, external (WWF).

It says the Selous Reserve has lost 90% of its elephant population, which forty years ago stood at over 100,000.

The report blames industrial-scale poaching for ivory, fuelled by demand from China, for the sharp decline in the elephant population.

Tanzania's President John Magufuli has promised to tackle the corruption that allows the illegal ivory trade to continue.
