A fan of British football club Tottenham Hotspur has been arrested after throwing a banana skin at Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who plays for rival team Arsenal.

The incident happened when Aubameyang scored the first goal of Sunday's fiercely fought match between the two north London sides, which Arsenal went on to win 4-2. CCTV was used to identify and catch the culprit, who has now also been banned from future matches.

Black players in British football have long faced racist abuse from fans, which in the past often involved bananas being thrown at them or monkey noises being chanted at them on the pitch.

The Football Association says they will investigate Sunday's events. A total of seven arrests were made - two of those arrested were Arsenal fans who lit smoke canisters during the match.

Tottenham Hotspur addressed the racist abuse with this statement:

Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and the supporter in question will be issued with a ban."

Caroline Nokes, immigration minister, said deportees can ring the Windrush helpline or visit the government website

Campaigners have accused the UK's Home Office of a lack of "decency" after it emerged "no specific attempt" had been made to approach 49 people deported to Ghana and Nigeria in 2017.

They were deported before the Windrush scandal erupted - which revealed people from Commonwealth countries who had legally lived in Britain for decades were wrongly classed as illegal immigrants and deported.

Following parliamentary questions from Green Party MP Caroline Lucas, Home Office ministers now admit there are 49 people who have still not been informed by the government that a task force exists to deal with the scandal.

The Home Office says it is up to Commonwealth citizens to seek information about their status.

MPs said it showed the government had learned nothing from the scandal.

  3. Commuters walk as Nairobi matatu ban startspublished at 09:06 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2018

Thousands of commuters have been forced to walk to work in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, as a ban on public minibuses from accessing the city centre takes effect.

Last week, city authorities announced that the minibuses - known as matatus - will have to pick and drop off passengers at a terminal outside the city’s Central Business District.

City hall says the directive is an attempt to decongest the capital where more than 20,000 matatus operate.

But critics claim the terminus where matatus are forced to stop are not big enough to handle the high number of minibuses.

There were crowded scenes this morning at the bus terminal and our reporter Ferdinand Omondi has been capturing some of the scenes.
