The UK ambassador to Ethiopia, Alistair McPhail, tweets a video saying he and his team are "working hard" to establish what happened in the crash and are in close contact with authorities.

He says those concerned about loved ones should follow the embassy's social media pages.

Mr McPhail also sent his condolences to the friends and families of those involved.

Ghana's president sends his sympathies to the victims's families.

Somalia's foreign affairs ministry tweets a statement on the crash, saying the country "stands steadfastly with the people of Ethiopia at this difficult time".

One Somali national died in the crash, with local media reporting it was Shahaad Abdishakur, the protocol officer for the Somalian prime minister.

US embassies in Addis Ababa and Nairobi are working with the airline and Ethiopia's government, the state department tweets.

"We will contact directly family members of US citizens impacted," the tweet reads

It's the second fatal crash of the Boeing 737 Max-8 in just five months.

These planes have only been in commercial use since 2017, and this Ethiopian Airlines aircraft was less than three months old.

There were eight Italians on the flight.

There were 18 Canadian citizens on the crashed flight.

A second tweet gives numbers to call for emergency consular help in Ethiopia.

An Al Jazeera journalist is tweeting that delegates heading to a UN environmental meeting set to kickoff in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, on Monday, are among those who died in the crash.

She reports that French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to attend the event.

Ethiopian Airlines has given more details about the flight in a press release.

Senior captain Yared Getachew, who had more than 8,000 flight hours, was in command of the plane.

His first officer, Ahmed Nur Mohammod Nur, had 200 hours of flight time.

Russia's embassy in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, has posted the names of the victims on Twitter.

They are Ekaterina Polyakova, Alexander Polyakov and Sergei Vyalikov.

The embassy says it is in contact with and ready to help their families.

Jonathan Seex, chief executive officer of the catering and hospitality company Tamarind Group, was killed in the crash.

The company, which runs a number of restaurants and venues throughout Africa, posted the news on Facebook.

Slovakian MP Anton Hrnko, the vice-chairman of the Slovak National Party, has posted on Facebook to say his wife and two children were among the four Slovakians killed in the crash

Relatives waiting at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport have been officially told about the victims of the crash, reports say.

A meeting of the UN Environment Assembly is scheduled to start in Nairobi on Monday.

Rose Mwebaza of the African Development Bank said there was a "sombre mood" ahead of the summit, as delegates mourn colleagues who died en route.
