  14. Somalia: Tension high in Mogadishu's streetspublished at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2021

Tension is high in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, as people wait to see if the ongoing political power struggle between the president and prime minister impacts on the security situation in the streets.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo suspended Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble pending the completion of a corruption enquiry, but Mr Roble has refused to stand down, instead blaming the president for staging a coup against the government. He said the security forces should take orders only from him.

The BBC's Bella Sheegow has been canvassing opinions in the street in Mogadishu.

"Military troops that were against the president are now packed in the city and they control some parts of it. This has really caused a lot of fear... Some of the people support the prime minister, others support the president, but what everyone thinks: they don't want another war, they don't want instability, they all want elections."
