Search and rescue efforts are under way following the gas explosion, the Red Cross has told the BBC's Newsday programme.
"We are trying to evacuate people who are injured," Vanant Ndhingila said.
Mr Ndhingila said 271 people have been taken to various hospitals in the city.
He said houses, shops and cars in the surrounding area have been "completely" burned, forcing many people to flee their homes.
"We are also conducting restoration of family links for those who were separated from family members," he said.
Mr Ndhingila also said that those affected are being offered psychological support to deal with the trauma.
The governor of Nairobi County has waived medical bills for survivors who are being treated at facilities run by the county government.
"The county government has also waived all medical fees at the county facilities attending to the injured and bereaved," Governor Johnson Sakaja said in a statement.
Earlier, the Kenya Red Cross said it had taken 271 people to hospital.
The county is also working with other agencies to deliver relief items to those affected by the fire, Mr Sakaja said.

He has suffered severe burns on his head and hands.
Three people have been confirmed dead and many others are being treated in hospital.
Kenyan police have arrested the guard who was watching the gas handling facility when the explosion happened, local reports say.
It is still unclear what charges he is likely to face.
Local media also report that authorities are searching for two mechanics who were spotted repairing a vehicle near the site of the blast.
The mechanics allegedly triggered the fire after jumpstarting a car they were repairing, Kenyans news website reports, external, citing resident accounts.
