Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi have declared the opening of a new chapter of relations after over a decade of estrangement.

The two countries cut ties in 2013 after Mr Sisi, then defence minister, ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, an ally of Turkey.

In a joint meeting in Egypt's capital Cairo on Wednesday, the two leaders said they were turning a "new leaf" in their relations.

It was the Turkish leader's first visit to Egypt in more than 10 years.

Several bilateral agreements were signed during the meeting.

The two leaders also criticised Israel's conduct of the war in the Gaza Strip and called for a ceasefire.

Authorities in Somalia have banned face masks in the capital, Mogadishu, due to security concerns.

The spokesperson of the Mogadishu administration, Salah Dheere, said that face masks are being used by criminals to hide their identity and carry out illegal activity.

The masks were widely used during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Authorities also outlawed wearing of hats and carrying weapons in public transport.

But traditional sunnah hats worn by elders are exempt from the ban.

The decision was made during a recent security meeting in Mogadishu, chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Somalia has been plagued by insecurity for years, with the main threats emanating from the al-Shabab militant group.

The al-Qaeda-affiliated group has stepped up attacks in a show of resurgence since President Mohamud's government launched an offensive against the group in August 2022.

Some Ghanaians blame Ken Ofori-Atta for the country's economic woes

Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo has replaced Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, as the West African country endures the worst economic crisis in a generation.

Mr Ofori-Atta, an ex-banker, has been in office since 2017 and has faced criticism for Ghana's financial crisis.

At the height of the crisis in 2022, inflation surpassed 50% and the government defaulted on loan payments.

It subsequently restructured its debt with creditors to qualify a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mohammed Amin Adam, who previously served as deputy energy minister and minister of state in the finance ministry, was on Wednesday appointed as Mr Ofori-Atta's replacement.

Mr Adam is expected to oversee the ongoing $3bn IMF economic recovery program as well as debt restructuring negotiations with the country's commercial creditors.

President Akufo-Addo replaced 12 other ministers in Wednesday's cabinet reshuffle, which precedes Ghana's December presidential elections.
