  3. First back-and-forth with Kim and mediapublished at 02:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2019

Still lots of excitement among the journalistic community about Mr Kim answering a question from a Washington Post reporter. It's hard to convey quite how seismic that is, and it cannot have been by accident. Will North Koreans back home find out this happened? Will we see more of this?

  4. No US demands for full disclosure?published at 02:23 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2019

Various reports have been emerging about what might be in the deal Mr Kim and Mr Trump strike today. A long-held demand of the US was that North Korea fully disclose all its nuclear and missile assets and facilities. US media reports are saying negotiators are no longer demanding that. That's not surprised North Korea watchers, who say that tactic was abandoned long ago.

  6. Kim has to keep hardliners happypublished at 02:20 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2019

Andray Abrahamian, Koret Fellow at APARC, Stanford University, told the BBC that while Mr Kim is tremendously powerful at home, he does have to worry about politics.

"He is the most important person in that system, but it still is a system and that is full of important and influential people.

"North Korea has hardliners same as other countries, so he will have to concede something to the Americans - but he’ll need to take something back to justify that concession."

  8. North Korea as an economic powerhouse?published at 02:13 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2019

In remarks to the press in the last few moments, Mr Trump has repeated his insistence that North Korea's economy, with help, could be a huge economic success if the talks go well. He's been saying that a lot. After the Singapore summit he even quipped that North Korea had some nice beaches which would be good for luxury hotels.

However, North Korea analyst Dr Vipin Narang told the BBC last week that such talk may not be seen as 100% a good thing in North Korea.

Here's why: "When we talk about North Korea becoming an economic rocket, and all the rewards – we should be very careful because Kim may see that as a threat to his power and legitimacy... So it’s not clear that this is a reward for Kim Jong-un. In a lot of ways we have to be careful it’s not perceived as a threat.”

Unusually, North Korean media has been heavily reporting this visit. These images were on their front pages this morning. North Korea very closely controls access to information - few people hear anything from the outside world and doing so is a crime. These images must be having a real impact.
