    We're bringing our live coverage of the Waroona fire in Western Australia to an end. It has destroyed nearly 100 homes and buildings in Yarloop and emergency warnings are in place for Harvey, Myalup, and Waroona. 

    There are conflicting reports over whether three missing people have been found - some reports say three people who reported to a rescue centre were not those officially listed as missing.

    As residents have fled the fires, some with horses have reportedly set them free with phone numbers painted on them, presumably in the hope that others who find the horses will return them afterward.

    The Guardian is reporting that there may still be people missing - the paper has been told by emergency officials that a family of three who turned up were not those registered as missing.

  5. 'Looting' amid Waroona firepublished at 07:03

    There are unconfirmed reports on Twitter and elsewhere that there may be looting occuring in Yarloop, Waroona, and other places affected by the fire. One local paper, external said that the looters appeared to be youths on bicycles.

    Despite the devastation of their town, residents of Yarloop remained resilient, said volunteer firefighter Chris Gable. "They’re shocked and in disbelief at what happened. But yet they’re still got a sense of humour. 

    "The pub went up [in flames] and someone said, 'Yeah but the police station is still standing!' 

    "These people cheered themselves up with their own sense of humour. The community is very tight," he told the BBC.

    Volunteer firefighter Chris Gable, who was at Yarloop when the Waroona fire engulfed it last night, told the BBC: "The fire was very, very fast, it was coming over the trees.  We left town for a bit [last night] and when we came back the fire shed was gone, the volunteers' cars parked at the shed were on fire, and the pub and museum were all gone."

    WA resident Chris Gable was fighting fires last night at Yarloop. He told the BBC that his brigade had a close call with the fast-moving blaze: "We saw the fire come down the hill and it was incredible... We were lucky that the wind changed at the right time and the fire went right around us. It just passed as we just ran out of water. We did have an escape plan but that was a close call. At one point it was just 30m from us"

    Emergency services officials have now included another town, Myalup, in its bushfire emergency warning., external Homes are under threat as well at Preston Beach, Lake Clifton, Waroona, Cookernup and Yarloop.

    Western Power says, external the Waroona fire has left some 3,900 people with electricity, and that it isn't yet safe to go in to repair the damage. 

    It is expecting "significant rebuilding of the network will be required based on the size of the fire zone and the number of assets in the area".

    A Total Fire Ban, external is in place in parts of Western Australia, including Perth Metropolitan. This means no open air fires, no "hot work" like welding or soldering, and no other "activities that may start a fire".

    Breaking the ban can mean a fine of up to A$25,000 (£12,000; $17,600) and/or jail time of up to a year.
