Various reports say two attackers have been killed.
Here's what we know about the situation in Paris:
The Eagles of Death Metal band was the scheduled headliner at Paris’ Bataclan concert hall, where the ongoing hostage situation is.
The band's Facebook page, external said:
Quote MessageWe are still currently trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew. Our thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the "despicable terrorist attacks" carried out in Paris.
"He demands the immediate release of the numerous individuals reportedly being held hostage in the Bataclan theatre," his spokesman said in a statement.
"The secretary-general extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. He stands with the government and people of France."

The UK's Foreign Office says people with concerns about British friends or relatives in Paris can call the main switchboard number 0044 207 008 1500 for assistance.
The BBC's Hugh Schofield, who is close to the Bataclan venue, says there were a series of bangs, which sounded like shots and detonations.
He says not much has happened since the flurry of activity.

Simon Cooper, a journalist in Paris, was inside the Stade de France when the explosions went off. He told the BBC:
Quote MessageFrancois Hollande was at the game at the beginning and he left during the game... because of what was happening in central Paris with the shootings. There was a huge amount of uncertainty here, but strangely the match was played out and the fans cheered the French goals as if nothing was happening
