  2. Attacks 'prepared abroad'published at 17:43

     The French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has given more details about the attacks after meeting his Belgian counterpart.

    "The investigation will show that the Paris attacks were prepared abroad, by a group of individuals based in Belgium who benefited from accomplices in France.

    "There's an intensive need for cooperation between the French and Belgian services because those in Belgium who prepared the attacks were not known to the French intelligence services."

    The body of a second assailant involved in the Paris attacks has been identified, sources close to the investigation have told the AFP news agency.

    The sources said he was one of three brothers believed to be involved in the attacks, and his body was found at the Bataclan concert hall.

    Information continues to emerge about the perpetrators behind the attacks. Here's what we know so far.

    How many attackers were there?

    • Seven attackers in three coordinated teams, French prosecutors say.
    • Three blew themselves up outside the Stade de France.
    • One died after detonating a suicide vest at Le Comptoir Voltaire restaurant on the Boulevard Voltaire.
    • Three men wearing suicide vests were involved in the deadliest attack of the night, at the Bataclan concert venue, in which 89 people were killed. Two died after detonating their vests, the third was shot by police.

    Have any been identified?

    • One has been formally identified as Frenchman Ismael Omar Mostefai, 29, from the town of Courcouronnes, 15km south of Paris.
    • Belgian prosecutors say two more assailants were also French and had been living in Brussels.
    • French media reports suggest three of the men involved were brothers, but police have not confirmed the reports.

    Have any been arrested?

    • Belgian police have arrested a total of seven suspects, and say they are hunting another man who rented a car used in the attack.
    • The exact role played in the attacks by the men arrested in Belgium is not known.

    Did any of the attackers survive?

    • Police are reportedly hunting a Frenchman who hired a car used in the attack on the Bataclan theatre, but it is not known if the man took part in the attacks.
    • The discovery of a black Seat believed to have been used as a getaway car by the attackers may suggest some got away alive.
    • The car was found abandoned in the eastern suburb of Montreuil with several Kalashnikovs inside, along with empty and full magazines.

  12. Three brothers involved in attacks - reportspublished at 16:04

    Three brothers were involved in the Paris attacks, according to French news agency AFP, with one possibly still at large.

    Citing sources close to the investigation, AFP reports that one brother died in the attacks late Friday, one is in custody in Belgium but it is unclear whether he took part in the rampage, and a third either took part and died during the attacks or is at large.

    Previous reports said police were hunting a man who rented a black Volkwagen Polo used in the attacks, but it is not known if he is the brother possibly at large.

    Michael O'Connor was at the Bataclan theatre when the shooting started. He spoke earlier to the BBC's Stephen Nolan.

    "It was an automatic rifle, firing into the crowd, people falling all over the place, people screaming and just clawing and running and pushing to get away.

    "Once they'd emptied their magazines, everybody kind of got back up and tried to make another dash for the exit and then he just reloaded and tried to fire into all of us again.

    "I pulled my girlfriend underneath me and I lay on top of her."

  14. Gauck: 'Never bow to terror'published at 15.38

    German President Joachim Gauck has spoken out in defiance of the Paris attacks at Germany's National Day of Mourning - an annual ceremony set up to remember those who lost their lives in conflicts past and present.

    Mr Gauck said: "We'll bow our heads to the dead, but we'll never bow to terror."

    He also said "a new kind of war" had hit societies worldwide.

  16. Calls for Nato to join fight against Islamic Statepublished at 15:15

    News of the attacks in Paris has led to suggestions that Nato should join the fight against the so-called Islamic State.

    Speaking to the BBC's World at One programme, Admiral James Stavridis, external, a former Nato Supreme Allied Commander, said: "I think there will be boots on the ground from Nato forces."

    Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said he hoped that Nato would change its "priorities" in the aftermath of the attacks.

    "The world is changing, and this shock, the shake-up that took place in Paris will probably ... change a little bit the scale of priorities of our colleagues in Washington in other NATO capitals," he said.

  17. US and France 'to intensify air strikes against IS'published at 15:03

    France will intensify its air strikes against the so-called Islamic State in Syria and Iraq in coordination with the US, according to US Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes.

    "First of all, we're clearly going to work very closely with the French in terms of intelligence sharing, also in terms of their military response inside of Syria," Mr Rhodes told the ABC TV channel at the G20 summit in Turkey.

    "The French have been with us in Iraq and Syria and conducting airstrikes. I think we want to continue to intensify that coordination," he said.

  18. Wearing flowers and playing jazz in Parispublished at 14:38

    Mihaela Iordache manages the 10 Belles coffee shop, just around the corner from the attacks in the 11th arrondissement.

    She told the BBC's Lucy Burton that she's wearing flowers and playing jazz in the cafe today to cheer people up. 

    Iordache is also donating all her profit today to the Red Cross for the work it does with immigrants. 

    She said Saturday was very quiet, but people "went crazy" at home and are back out today. They're queuing out onto the street from the cafe, she said.

  20. 'Better cooperation needed to defeat IS'published at 14.20

    Corinne Narassiguin, a spokeswoman for France's governing socialist party, told BBC News that better international cooperation is needed to defeat the Islamic State.
