Travel on and off the Isle of Man, specifically disrupted travel, is a very big issue for the next Manx government. We haven't got the option to get on a train so our lifeline routes have to be regulated. It's a subject which needs looking at very carefully indeed."

  2. Isle of Man 2016 General Election 2016: Malarkey elected in Douglas Southpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

Bill Malarkey finishes second to Kate Beecroft in Douglas South and will once again serve as an MHK.

He previously represented the constituency from 2006 to 2011 and was successful in last year's by-election.

  3. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Who else makes up Tynwald?published at 22:06 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

So that's the first two MHKs elected.

Tynwald is made up of two chambers: the directly elected House of Keys (lower house) and the Legislative Council (upper house).

As well as the 24 elected MHKs the Legislative Council has three automatically appointed members (the Bishop of Sodor and Mann, the President, and the Attorney General) plus eight other members who are elected by MHKs.

The two chambers process legislation which requires Royal Assent but sit together as Tynwald to debate policy and financial issues.

  6. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Declaration on its way?published at 21:58 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Mark Edwardson
    Reporter, BBC North West Tonight

I'm here at the count for the Arbory Castletown and Malew constituency.

The implications of Brexit for the Isle of Man are weighing heavily on voters' minds here - what will happen ot the Isle of Man when the UK leaves the European Union?

Other key issues during the campaign have been the island's budget, and concerns about the lack of opportunities for young people here.  How can we tempt young graduates back?

I'm hearing the results are at least another 45 minutes away - time for another cuppa!

  7. Will there be more women in the Keys?published at 21:47 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

Another key point made just now on Manx Radio by Angela Moffatt from the Prospect trade union is the lack of women in Tynwald.

Currently the Isle of Man ranks lower than Iran for female representation in parliament - we only had one woman in Tynwald by the time it dissolved this summer.

That could change tonight though, at least to some extent: there are 13 women standing in this election - almost double the figure in 2011.

  8. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Why 'seismic change' is neededpublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

A big hello to Mike Crompton, who has been kind enough to get in touch with us by email:

Loving your coverage of the elections.

I agree that there will be a seismic change in the political landscape.

I want to see bold reform by those elected. Austerity is acceptable if shared by all.

Why do we need 24 politicians for less than 90,000 constituents. I know we shouldn't necessarily follow the UK but they are proposing 1 MP per 75,000!!

We have so many heads of departments it is crazy.

Please be bold and selfless rather than self preserving.

    Mike Crompton

  9. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Call for more Manx transparencypublished at 21:39 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

It's all getting rather feisty down in Broadcasting House. Nope, nobody has nicked all of the chocolate biscuits (yet!).

Rather, there has been a lot of heated debate between former chief minister Tony Brown and Angela Moffatt from the Prospect trade union.

She argues time is ripe for change here in the Isle of Man... not least when it comes to how transparent our government operates.

    Angela Moffat
    Quote Message

The Manx public can see a system which is not very open and not very transparent and that's not very engaging is it? People have had to fight for years and years for the Freedom of Information Act - you have to be very tenacious to get any information out of government departments - let's hope things are about to change".

    Angela Moffatt, Prospect Union

Mr Brown, meanwhile, thinks it's straightforward to find out what's going on in the corridors of power.

  10. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Could youth be given a chance?published at 21:30 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

The average age in the House of Keys could be about to drop, if Manx Radio's exit polls are to be believed.

According to their research, 27-year-old Carlos Phillips could have won himself a seat in Ayre and Michael.

  11. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: High turnout?published at 21:18 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

It's been a gorgeous early Autumn day today, and according to election folklore that means we could have a very high turnout.

Do you believe that, though?  Would a drop or two of rain stop you from traipsing down to your local polling station?

  12. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Biggest political change for 40 years on the cardspublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

While we're still awaiting the first results of the night, one thing is for certain - we are set for the biggest change in the make-up of our parliament since 1976, when about half of the House of Keys changed.

    Quote Message

There are going to be a lot of surprises and a lot of shocks tonight. Many very experienced members have gone [including Chief Minister Allan Bell and Treasury Minister Eddie Teare] - we are losing more than a century of political experience in the Isle of Man."

  13. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Ex-chief minister claims exit polls suggest desire for changepublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

  14. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: All change at the toppublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

Outgoing Chief Minister Allan Bell - the longest serving MHK - has seen a lot during his time in Tynwald.

When he was first elected, homosexuality was still illegal on the island.

Here he reflects on how attitudes have changed...

  15. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Hope for suspended Houghton?published at 20:39 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

Manx Radio's exit polls also suggest suspended former MHK John Houghton is still very popular among voters in Douglas North.

If he is re-elected, will he be forced to apologise to Tynwald after a bullying row?

    John Houghton

In May he became the first MHK to be ever suspended indefinitely from Tynwald.

The parliament's standards committee found Mr Houghton had "bullied and lied" in relation to a staffing matter.

Members voted to accept the report's findings and said he should apologise.

But Mr Houghton said: "Hell would freeze over" before he did, prompting President Clare Christian to hand down the unprecedented indefinite ban.

  16. Isle of Man 2016 Election: The times (and boundaries) they are a-changin'...published at 20:28 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

This year's general election will see an end to a system in which some Manx residents got three votes and others just one.

Following an overhaul of the Isle of Man's electoral boundaries, each of the 12 constituencies will be represented by two MHKs.

  17. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Exit poll worry for Howard Quaylepublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

Manx Radio's exit polls also suggest former Health Minister Howard Quayle could be in trouble in his constituency of Middle.

    Former Health Minister Howard Quayle

Bill Shimmins and Paul Craine could be in line to be the Middle MHKs, the exit poll suggests.

  18. Isle of Man 2016 General Election: Going, going Gawne?published at 20:12 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Phil Gawne

Could Phil Gawne be about to lose his seat?

Our friends at Manx Radio - they're just up the corridor from us here in Broadcasting House in Douglas - have conducted exit polls in all 12 constituencies.

That poll suggests Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne will lose his seat in Arbory, Castletown and Malew.

They also think Graham Cregeen could lose out to newcomers Steven Crowther and Jason Moorhouse.
