    Representatives from Guernsey's teachers unions say they broadly support plans to modernise the secondary education system.

    Sean McManus from the NUT says there are some concerns, particularly from teachers in the schools facing the biggest structural change. He said they want to ensure their jobs and salaries are sufficiently protected.

    Dave Hill from the NASUWT says the greatest concern is among teachers based at La Mare de Carteret and the Grammar School site in St Peter Port.

    He says staff are worried about the loss of teaching posts and management positions when the two schools are operationally merged during the first phase of the education plan.

    Jersey's centeniers, who are responsible for deciding whether to prosecute someone, are given full legal advice before making their decision according to the head of the honorary police force.

    Hugh Raymond was responding to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry report that found in the past centeniers had the power to decide if alleged abusers should be prosecuted.

    The panel found that they had no training or expertise to make these decisions.

    Hugh Raymond said it is not the case today, and the centeniers work is always scrutinised.

    Members of Sark's government have voted to cut the number of conseillers from the current 28 to 18 in time for the 2018 elections.

    The Chairman of Sark's Policy and Performance Committee Conseiller Charles Maitland believes the island has too many.

    Since the election held in December 2008 its voting members have been elected by islanders.

    The 28 conseillers serve four-year terms with elections held for half of the government every two years.
