Jersey's Environmental Health Department will check island pubs and restaurants to see if their ice is clear of infections.
It follows a BBC Watchdog report in the UK which found contamination in the ice served to people in many fast food and coffee shops.
The report found that a high proportion of the ice they tested showed traces of bacteria found in human excrement.
It concerned the Jersey authorities so much that they went out to test several of the island's coffee shops - and found no evidence of any contamination.
Environmental health officer Stuart Petrie says the initial findings in the island are encouraging but they will continue testing other places.
