    Ryan Morrison
    BBC News Online

The Jersey poppy appeal raised £195,000 in 2018 as the island remembered the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.

There were more than 800 volunteer poppy sellers working to raise money for the appeal supported by a core team of 15-20 people.

There were also a number of other events including a Royal British Legion biker torch ride, coffee mornings and a documentary about the Jersey contingent.

It was also the first time islanders were encouraged to recycle their poppies so they can be broken down into their component parts and recycled or re-purposed into new poppies for the 2019 appeal.

The money raised will be used to provide financial, social and emotional support to local veterans, serviceman and their families.

A Jersey financial adviser whose clients lost £2.7m has been jailed for seven years.

Christopher Paul Byrne, 50, the former managing director of Lumiere Wealth, was previously found guilty of a number of charges at Jersey's Royal Court.

They related to selling of investments in the Guernsey-based Providence Fund, which collapsed in 2016, seeing investors lose millions.

Despite previously pleading guilty to carrying out unauthorised financial services business and providing false Information to the island's financial regulator, today Byrne was found guilty of 14 counts of fraudulently inducing 13 clients to invest in the Providence Fund.

In a statement, Jersey police said: "The investigation highlighted the vulnerability of clients placing high degrees of trust in their financial adviser.

"Some of Byrne’s victims had known him for many years and come to trust him implicitly.

"Believing him to be giving impartial advice and having their best interests at heart they went on to lose £2.7m worth of their savings."

The 2020 Association has been formed following the departure of a number of members of the Islanders Association.

Following success for its option in the Island Wide Voting Referendum five members resigned from the executive committee of the Islanders Association because of what it called "irreconcilable differences of administrative style" with another member.

The 2020 Association, which insists it will not be a political party, is being supported by Deputies Peter Ferbrache, Joe Mooney and Jan Kuttelwascher.

It plans to canvas its membership online for their views on particular issues as they arise - to give their opinions on what would be best for the island.

The chairman of the association, Harvey Marshall, says it's an opportunity for those who voted for Island Wide Voting, and others, to ensure the future success of the island.
