    A Jersey man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of indecent assault, one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice and one count of possessing indecent images of children.

    Nathan Thomas John Jordan, aged 34, committed the offences between 2010 and 2012.

    He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years as well as receiving a 10-year restraining order.

    The two women involved were both in their 20s at the time and both women were known to Jordan.

    However, he betrayed their trust and subjected them to many forms of abuse over the space of several years, the Royal Court heard.

    Acting Inspector Cathy Davison, head of the Public Protection Unit said the women were exposed to Jordan’s "controlling and coercive behaviour" and have shown "immense strength and courage" in reporting the abuse.

    A Jersey man has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for possessing indecent images of children, for breaching his restraining order under the sex offender legislation and for failing to make his devices available for inspection on request.

    Martin Frederick Daly, 47, was jailed after officers found 22,000 images of children on his devices and computer.

    He has been a registered sex offender since 2017 in relation to an indecent assault on a nine-year-old girl.

    He will now remain on the Sex Offenders Register for an additional 10 years and further restraining orders were imposed for a 10-year period.

    A new income revenue service from the States is due to be updated after it was slated by users.

    A survey, reflecting the the experiences of almost 400 people who used the States of Guernsey Revenue Service - which was created in October to take over the income tax and social security - received "overwhelmingly negative feedback" with 83% of comments being negative.

    Users complained about waiting times, customer service, and the website itself.

    Director of the Revenue Services, Nicky Forshaw says the team was surprised by some of the feedback but acknowledges changes need to be made...

  7. Boy, 17, treated in hospital after fight in Jerseypublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 4 April 2019

    A 17-year-old boy was punched and knocked unconscious in a fight in Jersey, police have said.

    It happened on 1 April at about 18:40 in the area of Hilgrove Street, near McDonalds.

    The boy was left with a cut to his right eyebrow and was treated in hospital before being released.

    He is described as about 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall, of slender build and was wearing a dark coloured sweater and grey jogging bottoms.

    Officers said it's possible the suspect is known to the victim.

    Any witnesses are asked to contact States of Jersey Police via 612 612.

    Guernsey's marine ambulance was called out yesterday to treat a passenger on a visiting cruise ship.

    St John's Flying Christine III left St Peter Port at about 18:30 on Wednesday evening to assess the man with a medical condition aboard the Britannia - which later cancelled its stay.

    He was transferred onto an ambulance after arriving back in St Peter Port and then transported to hospital for treatment, St John Emergency Ambulance Service said.

    The service often treats passenger from cruise ships.

    The Britannia was due to be the first of 96 scheduled cruise ship visits this year.

    Guernsey's new director of education made an "outstanding" impression in her interview for the senior post, Education, Sport and Culture's president says.

    Laurie Baker has been appointed in the role, taking over from Andrew Warren who has been in the position since June 2018.

    Deputy Matt Fallaize said Ms Baker had "very broad" experience in senior education roles, including in local government and made an "outstanding impression" at interview and at events held as part of the recruitment process.

    Guernsey's health authority wants to give people in Alderney access to drugs that are already available to patients in the UK.

    The treatments licensed by the UK body, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), include anti-cancer medication, end of life treatments, and medication for childhood illnesses not currently available for patients living in Alderney or Guernsey.

    The Health and Social Committee held workshops in Alderney on Wednesday to ask for views that will be fed into a final report.

    Jersey's government auditor has identified "significant" concerns about how the island's most vulnerable adults are cared for.

    In her report on services for elderly people and adults with disabilities, , externalComptroller and Auditor General Karen McConnell says Jersey's Health Department has not learnt from what staff and patients had to say.

    Work on recommendations she made in a previous 2015 report has not been finished, and where changes have been made, there is no way of measuring how successful they've been, the report detailed.

    In it, she concluded: "Until the States focus on implementation of agreed actions and the outcomes of implementation, opportunities to drive improvements in the services provided and to mitigate the very substantial risk to vulnerable people will not be secured."

    Jersey's Health Department says it is making fundamental changes, which will make sure everyone is treated properly.

    Investigations are under way after a fire in Alderney.

    Crews were called at about 01:20 and were informed a person was inside the building.

    Whilst the team carried out a search, the person had managed to escape the property and was found outside.

    They were taken to the Mignot Memorial Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

    Crews were the informed another occupant was "safe and well" in another property - after initial concerns they were also in the burning building.

    The fire was put out and Alderney Fire Brigade is investigating its cause.

    Jersey's environment department has defended its approval of a potentially dangerous chemical to treat Jersey crops.

    Ministers have agreed to let farmers use a product called Cuprokylt, which prevents fungal infections.

    They say there is no risk and the island's water company isn't concerned.

    But the UK's agriculture ministry says Cuprokylt is harmful to aquatic life if it gets into water supplies, and harmful to farm animals too.

    Deputy Gregory Guida, who's responsible for farming in the island, says it will be very carefully controlled, to prevent any possible pollution...
