  1. First moment of happiness in a long time, says kibbutz administratorpublished at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2023

Twelve of the hostages so far released are from the Kibbutz Be’eri in Israel. Earlier, community administrator Iftah Celniker spoke to Radio 4’s Today programme.

"It was very heart-warming, and it was very, very pleasing and satisfying and I think it was literally the first moment of happiness that we'd had here for a very long time," Celniker said

He added the released hostages are still in hospital.

"The only thing we know is that physically they are well. Apart from that we haven't heard anything," Celniker said.

He added that the community is facing a "long process of healing".

Ahead of the meeting, Jordan renewed its call for the temporary ceasefire to be made permanent, while US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated the importance of Israel taking "concrete steps" to minimise harm to civilians in Gaza.

The presidency of the UN Security Council rotates each month, with China holding it in November.

Yesterday thousands of people lined the streets near the Hatzerim military base in southern Israel to welcome Israeli hostages freed from Gaza.

Some of the 14 hostages, which included nine children, could be seen waving to the crowds from inside the minibuses.

The final group of hostages to be freed under the initial deal between Israel and Hamas is expected to emerge from Gaza later today.

  4. Dozens more hostages could be released if deal extendedpublished at 08:01 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2023

The final group of hostages to be freed under the initial deal is expected to emerge from Gaza later today.

About a dozen captives - women and children - should be released.

For every Israeli citizen freed, three Palestinian prisoners – women and minors – held in Israeli jails are being released.

Early indications suggest the truce could be extended. Israel is offering a further day of pause in the fighting in Gaza for every 10 captives released, and Hamas says it could agree to an extension.

A Palestinian official told the BBC between 20 to 40 additional Israeli hostages could be freed, which would possibly add an additional two to four days to the temporary ceasefire.

Around 180 people remain in captivity in Gaza - including about a dozen children - which gives Hamas leverage in its fight against Israel.

Some, however, fear an extended pause could give time for Hamas to regroup and organise its defences ahead of the possible restart of the Israeli campaign.

On Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was open to extending the deal, but also stressed that, after the temporary ceasefire, Israel would resume its offensive with the goal of “eliminating Hamas”.

In Gaza, the pause has allowed the delivery of much needed aid, as the humanitarian crisis triggered by weeks of unrelenting Israeli bombardment continues.

  5. Israeli PM’s office says hostage list being evaluatedpublished at 07:44 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2023

The list of hostages due to be released from Gaza later is being discussed and "evaluated in Israel", after being received overnight, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office says.

The Reuters news agency reports that both Hamas and Israel have raised concerns about the lists of hostages and prisoners due to be released today.

Under the terms of the temporary four-day truce, a total of 50 hostages are due to be released - 40 of whom have already left Gaza since it began on Friday - in exchange for 150 Palestinians in Israeli jails.

Friday and Sunday's releases went without major problem, but Saturday's exchange was delayed by several hours over allegations terms of the deal had been violated.

Qatari mediators, who have led the efforts to secure this deal, are again working to resolve the differences, Reuters says.

Maya Regev has been reunited with her family after she was taken hostage by Hamas at the Supernova music festival in southern Israel, along with her brother Itay.

Her family were filmed running towards her in hospital and embracing her following her release.

In a statement, the family said they are all "very excited by Maya's return to us", but added they still long for Itay's "imminent return home".

"This is a complex time and we are now undergoing the necessary steps in different areas to enable Maya’s optimal acclimation and full medical treatment. We need some time in order to accurately address various needs, and understand our current situation," the family said.

The statement added that "we ask the public, who has supported and strengthened us thus far, to pray for Itay’s, and of course all the other hostages’, speedy return home".

Elma Avraham, the 84-year-old released from Gaza yesterday is in a serious condition and fighting for her life, her son has told the BBC.

Elma was kidnapped from her home in Nahal Oz, a kibbutz close to Gaza, during the Hamas attacks on 7 October.

Her son later found images on social media of her surrounded by Hamas gunmen on a motorbike.

Uri Rawitz says that his mother was flown by helicopter to hospital in Be’er Sheva after being released, where she remains ventilated and sedated.

Her medical condition is a result of the long period of time that an elderly woman was not treated properly, Uri says.

In a statement, the Soroka medical centre in Be’er Sheva said: "It is horrific that we now need to continue to care for elderly patients held in underground tunnels for seven weeks with total medical neglect and disregard for their care.”

Fifty-eight hostages held in Gaza have now been released.

They include Wichai Kalapat, who was initially thought to be among the Thai nationals killed in the Hamas raid of 7 October but his girlfriend received word last week that he was being held hostage in Gaza. She told the BBC she was "so happy" because she did not think he would be among those who were released.

Doron Katz Asher, 34, and her two daughters Raz, four, and Aviv, two, were taken captive while staying with relatives near the Gaza border. Doron's husband, Yoni, saw a video of his wife and daughters being loaded on to a truck with other hostages. He also traced Doron's mobile phone to Gaza.

"I am determined to bring about the resurrection of my family from the trauma and the terrible bereavement we went through," Mr Asher told the BBC following their release.

"I don't celebrate, I won't celebrate until the last of the kidnapped returns," he said.

A Muslim civil rights and advocacy group in the US is offering a $10,000 (£7,900) reward for information on the perpetrators of a shooting that targeted three Palestinian university students.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also urged authorities to investigate a possible "bias motive" for the shooting, citing an "unprecedented spike in anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate and violence".

Hisham Awartani, Tahseen Ahmed and Kinnan Abdalhamid were confronted and shot by a man near the University of Vermont Campus while on their way to a family dinner, Burlington Police said.

Officers are investigating a possible motive, but said they were wearing keffiyeh - a traditional scarf - and speaking Arabic when attacked.

Burlington police chief Jon Mura said two of the victims are in a stable condition; the third has suffered much more serious injuries.

Police are searching for the suspect.

    Wael Hussein Al Sayed
    Reporting from Cairo

When Palestinians cheered this evening in the streets of Ramallah in the West Bank for the release of 39 more prisoners under the hostage deal, Abdurahman Al-Zaghal from Silwan village in east Jerusalem was not one of those freed from jail because he was under house arrest and receiving treatment.

Al-Zaghal, said to be aged 14, was shot in the head and hit by shrapnel in the lower part of his body in August this year as he went out to buy bread, according to his uncle. Israeli authorities said he was trying to throw a petrol bomb at a settlement post in the area.

Al-Zaghal’s trial was held in absentia as he was still in intensive care at an Israeli hospital in west Jerusalem at the time.

He was seen today removing an electronic bracelet from his leg at the hospital where he’s receiving medical treatment.
