    Republican Senator Rand Paul witnessed the attack. He says: "Steve Scalise... was at second base. I'm way out in right field and I'm outside of the fence. So he goes down but is moving, he's crawling towards the outfield and I'm behind a tree now, right next to the batting cage and I'm seeing shots skipping off of the warning track."

    Witnesses said the attacker was armed with a rifle and fired 50 to 100 bullets. One congressman said he saw Mr Scalise shot. Everyone scattered as the lawmaker's security guards fired back, she adds.
