  12. Virginia: Reliably blue?published at 00:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2018

Virginia is considered a swing state, but current voting history could show it shifting to a Democratic stronghold.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, both Republicans and Democrats were elected to the governorship - but since 2009 only Democrats have won the seat.

In the Senate, Virginia also has elected two Democrats, and one - Hillary Clinton's runningmate Tim Kaine - is likely to win his re-election this year.

  13. West Virginia exit polls: Trump is popularpublished at 00:38 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2018

According to initial exit poll reports from CBS News, Trump remains popular in West Virginia - a state which went easily to him in 2016.

Joe Manchin is one of the vulnerable Democrats of this year's mid-terms and so far, data suggests voters are leaning towards his Republican opponent Patrick Morrisey.

That could be because 63% of voters polled by CBS say they came out to support Trump rather than condemn him.

Manchin's platform - like many Democrats this season - has focused on healthcare, as his state remains one of the unhealthiest in the nation.

And he is still getting nearly one in five votes even among Trump supporters which is better than other Democrats in other states.

Politicians both blue and red are reminding voters that if they are in line to vote, polling stations will not close until they have gotten an opportunity to cast their ballot.

Republican Marco Rubio in Florida warned voters that late-breaking turnout of Democrats will make the elections there "very close".

Democrat Hillary Clinton told Georgia voters - who have been braving long lines and technical difficulties - to stay in line to "bring this home" for Democrat Stacey Abrams.
