Heard is telling jurors more about escalating flirtation with Depp on the set of the Rum Diary in Puerto Rico.

She describes one instance in which they were together in his trailer.

"I’m going to get back to set and he kind of kicked his foot up in the air and lifted the back of my bathrobe up," she says.

Depp, still not looking up, appears to laugh at this remark.

"He picked up the back of my robe with his boot," she says. "I didn't know what to make of it."

Depp "playfully" pushed her down on a bed and he said "yum", Heard recalls.

This testimony contradicts Depp's own description of their early interactions.

As Depp told it, Heard was the pursuer, kissing him one day in his trailer.

  2. Lines were blurred while filming with Depp, Heard sayspublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Heard is going into more detail about being cast in the Rum Diary movie with Johnny Depp.

She describes the "surreal" filming experience in Puerto Rico and Depp being "really kind" to her and "more open to me".

"We didn't have a whole lot of interaction until we did a scene that involved kissing," Heard says.

"It didn't feel like a normal scene anymore, it felt more real - there are certain things you do in the job to be professional.

"Like when you do that sort of scene, you don't use your tongue if you can avoid it, you maintain a certain line - but it felt like those lines were blurred.

"He pulled me in and really kissed me."

  3. Heard recalls first meeting with 'charismatic' Johnny Depppublished at 19:23 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Amber Heard is describing her first meeting with Johnny Depp in 2009. It's a story we've heard before, but from Depp's perspective.

"We talked about books and music, poetry," she says of the two-hour meeting, before they filmed the Rum Diary movie. "We liked a lot of the same stuff."

"He was really well-read and charismatic," she adds, recalling she left his office with a stack of books he wanted her to read.

"He was twice my age, and he's a world-famous actor and here we are getting along."

Since Heard has taken the stand, Depp has not once looked up.

  4. Heard recalls childhood: Horses, school, and wanting to get out of Texaspublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Heard is talking about her childhood - her father worked with horses and in construction, and her mother worked for the state of Texas.

"I would help [my dad] - I was a crash test dummy - when you train a horse, a wild animal, they don't necessarily like to be ridden. There are people out there crazy enough to pick that as a profession," Heard says.

"I was the son he never had so it was my job to stay on. With training horses I guess the key things are to not show fear, not get intimidated, be tough and stay calm."

Heard says she pushed herself in school to accelerate the process: "I wanted to get out of school as fast as I could and do more things with my life than stay in Texas."

She says she grew up "quite working class" and was "a scholarship kid at a Catholic school" until she left school aged 16.

In her first moments on the stand, Amber Heard appears emotional as she describes her experience in court.

"I am here because my ex-husband is suing me," she says.

"I struggle to find the words to describe how painful this is, this is horrible for me to sit here for weeks and relive everything here," she says.

"This is the most painful and difficult thing I've ever gone through."

Heard appears to be struggling not to cry.

While she speaks, Johnny Depp looks down, and appears to be taking notes.

Over the past three weeks of the trial, jurors have heard several references to the "monster".

According to Heard's team, the monster refers to Depp - a dark and violent version of him, often emerging from drug and alcohol binges.

The court heard testimony about a text message sent from Depp to a former security guard that seems to support this claim.

"Amber and I have been absolutely perfect... I have locked my monster child away in a cage deep within and it has worked," Depp wrote.

But while on the stand, Depp said the "monster" was a phrase he used just to mollify his then-wife in an attempt to avoid conflict.

Asked why he used the phrase himself, Depp responded: "Because I heard it all the time."

    "That was her [Heard's] go-to."

As we just reported, Johnny Depp's team has completed their cross-examination of Dr Dawn Hughes, a forensic psychologist hired by Heard.

Heard's team is asking questions now. When they're done, the actress herself will take the stand.

As she waits to testify, Heard has sat next to her lawyers listening to Dr Hughes speak.

For the most part she has remained impassive, occasionally whispering something to her lawyers or scowling at questions posed by Depp's team.

  11. Depp experienced violence and aggression, Heard psychologist agreespublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Depp's lawyer Dennison finishes his cross-examination of Dr Hughes by asking: "You cannot testify that Depp was not abused, can you?"

"I can testify that he had physical acts of violence perpetrated upon him as well as psychological aggression perpetrated upon him," Hughes replies.

    "No further questions," Dennison says.

Heard's lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, begins her redirect - which happens after a cross-examination - for Heard's team.

Amber Heard may be called to give evidence next.

  12. Sometimes my temper explodes, Heard admittedpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Dennison, Depp's lawyer, references a note the psychologist Dr Hughes filled in about Heard's potential for aggression.

The note shows that Heard agreed with the statement that reads "sometimes my temper explodes and I completely lose control".

"How did that potential for aggression bear on your analysis?" Dennison asks.

"Ms Heard reported to me that in her relationship that would happen," Hughes says.

Heard also agreed with a comment of the form that read: "I think I have three or four completely different personalities inside of me."

We're still waiting for Amber Heard to take the stand, as Depp's lawyers are still questioning Dr Dawn Hughes - a forensic psychologist hired by Heard's team.

Under cross examination, Hughes has stood by her assessment from yesterday that Heard was the victim of domestic violence while married to Johnny Depp.

She's faced questions from Depp's team about if Heard ever felt unsafe in Depp's presence. She was asked, if Heard was afraid, then why did she give Depp a large knife as a gift?

Hughes was also asked about Heard's violence toward her ex-husband.

Heard did admit to violence, Hughes said, but most was in reaction to Depp.

  15. Psychologist asked about 'Intimate Partner Violence' notepublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Dennison - Depp's lawyer - references a note written by Hughes that says "IPV by Johnny," referencing Intimate Partner Violence by Depp.

He goes on to highlight the fact Hughes has left the box below the note completely blank.

"When I asked Ms Heard which of the traumatic events in her life was the worst, this is what she indicated," Hughes says.

"All of the information that would go in that box is in my 80 pages of [clinical] notes," Hughes adds.

"It would be incredibly redundant to do that again," she says.

Dennison says Hughes did not fill in a section on the form for "how often in the past month?" did the events happen - but Hughes noted that Heard said it happened two times per week.

  16. Does Amber Heard have PTSD?published at 16:24 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

    It depends who you ask.

Forensic psychologist Dawn Hughes testified yesterday that she had diagnosed Amber Heard with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She's being asked about this now.

"She [Heard] had PTSD in 2019, 2020, 2021," Dr Hughes says.

Earlier in trial, jurors heard from Dr Shannon Curry, a forensic psychologist, who told jurors categorically that Heard did not suffer from PTSD.

  17. Depp accused of headbutt; Heard of throwing vodka bottlepublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Dennison, Depp's lawyer, says there is not a single medical record that reflects any injury to Heard.

But Hughes - hired by Heard - says Heard's nurse made notes that indicated Heard was headbutted by Depp and went for a concussion check, and that she had a busted lip.

Dennison asks why there is no medical record reflecting this from a doctor, other than the nurse's note.

He then shows Hughes a photograph that depicts "a severe injury that ended up with Depp on a gurney [stretcher / hospital trolley]" which Hughes accepts.

He askes Hughes whether "throwing a can of mineral spirits at your spouse is characteristic of reactive violence".

"If you're running away from your spouse who is trying to hurt you, yes," Hughes says.

Dennison asks: "What about if you throw a bottle of vodka because your husband fell off the wagon, is that reactive violence?"

"If it's in the middle of an assault, perhaps - if it's independent of that, no," Hughes responds.

  18. What was Heard's relationship with James Franco?published at 16:09 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Dennison is talking about notes made by Hughes during her sessions with Heard entitled "intimate relationships" -

The note reads: "JF - friends - got close but really wanted to be with Johnny." Hughes notes "JF" represents actor James Franco.

He asks if Heard got close to Franco - but Hughes says they were friends.

Underneath the "JF" note, another note references Elon Musk, who Heard met in May 2016 at the Met Ball in New York and dated after Depp.

Hughes says Heard began dating Musk "sometime after the TRO [temporary restraining order]".

  19. Jurors hear Heard talking about hitting 'baby' Depppublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Jurors have heard a series of audio recordings of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard during their relationship.

They're hearing more now. Depp's lawyer Wayne Dennison has played a clip, introduced earlier in the trial, where the actress can be heard saying she was "hitting" Depp, before mocking him and calling him a "baby".

Hughes has testified that Heard indicated she was violent with he ex "a number of times and a number of instances".

But most of this violence was "reactive", Hughes claims - a response to abuse from Depp

  20. If Heard was afraid, why did she give Depp a knife?published at 15:51 British Summer Time 4 May 2022

Dr Dawn Hughes - who was hired by Heard - said she believes Heard was a victim of domestic abuse.

Depp's lawyer Wayne Dennison presses on this point, working to undermine the notion that Heard was ever in physical danger with her ex-husband.

He shows jurors a photo of a large knife given to Depp by Heard, engraved with a Spanish phrase which means "until death".

Why would someone in fear of their lives give such a gift to their alleged abuser, Dennison asks.

Hughes says there is wider "context" here.
